vivlite--they're just a couple of votes in, I guess, but Saland's previous support provided the needed 32nd vote in favor, so it should really pass. Also, the solid passage of the previous amendment is a very strong sign. Now there's no hate--its a gay senator asking his colleagues to vote yes for him and Louis, his partner. Two more speakers, and then the count. The two speakers were the most courted undecided republicans. One of them has already state his support. I think the other one is stating his support now.
ETA: so i think it'll be two short speeches--this guy and then saland--and then the count.
ETA2: YAYAYAY!!! Sen. Grisanti (undecided republican #2) is gonna vote in favor too! yay for New York!
ETA3: Hooray for people who change their minds!!!

Religious exemption vote was 36 in favor and 26 against with a big applause when that vote was read. Waiting now for the actual vote...

"NYTimes Breaking News Alert. Gay Marriage Gains Critical Vote in New York State Senate; Passage Appears Assured. State Senator Stephen M. Saland, who had been publicly undecided, said Friday that he would vote for gay marriage, giving the bill the support of 32 state senators, enough for passage"

ETA: If this passes I will have a glimmer of hope that our politicians can actually do the right thing once in a blue moon:-) ETA" Ah yes, pause in the proceedings... and yes another speaker...

VIVLITE: just so you're not confused--it's a very brief recess now and then they'll vote I think (well, they said saland might talk first but I'm guessing they'll just do the count). But i think its a done deal. ;D

Senator Grisanti's little speech was lovely -- and I am glad he is a wiser man today than he was 6 month ago. Yay New York!
