I wonder if QAL will mention Bowie at their concert besides doing Under Pressure since the festival is honoring Bowie on Saturday? him on Saturday? Thousands will pay tribute to David Bowie at Isle of Wight festivalFestivalgoers will wear Bowie masks at event on Saturday, and Glastonbury also planning celebrations of his life and work David Bowie performs at the Isle of Wight festival in 2004. Photograph: Yui Mok/PAThousands of music fans will be invited to wear masks of David Bowie at the Isle of Wight festival, the first of a series of tributes to the late singer at events around the UK this summer. British festival season kicks into gear this weekend with Isle of Wight, Download, Meltdown and Field Day. Bowie’s last festival appearance was at the Isle of Wight in 2004. He died in January after a battle with cancer. The tribute on Saturday has been organised by Stand Up to Cancer, a joint fundraising campaign by Cancer Research UK and Channel 4, which is the Isle of Wight festival’s official charity partner for 2016. The festival’s chief, John Giddings, told the Daily Echo: “David was a true musical icon, an immense talent who as a performer was incredible. His energy, creativity and passion were incomparable and I feel very lucky to have spent so many years working with him. “His set at the Isle of Wight festival in 2004 was one of the highlights of my career, and sadly his last UK festival show. I was hoping he’d play this year so our tribute will be a very emotional moment for me.” Read more: www.theguardian.com/music/2016/jun/10/david-bowie-isle-wight-festival-tribute-glastonbury?CMP=share_btn_tw

twitter.com/Pressparty/status/741373207685566464Queen talk about how they'll prepare for their Isle of Wight Festival set Friday, June 10, 2016 9:54pm by London Newsdesk Queen talk about how they'll prepare for their Isle of Wight Festival set Iconic rock band Queen and singer Adam Lambert will perform live this Sunday night at the Isle of Wight Festival and drummer Roger Taylor has revealed they'll give the slot that extra injection of passion. During an interview with BBC Radio 2's Chris Evans, Taylor explained that he, Brian May and Adam Lambert are very excited for the event and can't wait to bring their show to the 100,000-strong crowd: "We've been going all round Europe having some incredible shows and we're really looking forward to the Isle of Wight on Sunday, there's an incredible line up actually. It's kind of special. It's the only one in Britain. Of course... The Isle of Wight is part of our history, isn't it? The Isle of Wight Festival is a very special thing [...] it's going to be brilliant." When asked how he will prepare for the set, Taylor added: "I'm going to get a couple of days good rest after last night, which was a big festival in Sweden, and hopefully bring a good voice and all pumped up for Sunday." "I drink a bit of whiskey beforehand. I get very quiet before the actual show and noisy afterwards! Then hopefully loud during it... We just get focused really, we've been doing it for so long now. We'll give it that extra frisson of excitement..." As previously reported, Taylor also opened up about the band's plans for after the event and explained that he will take them back to his house for a curry and some drinks. Queen Facts @queenfacts1991 2h Today in 2012, Queen + Adam Lambert began rehearsing for their first ever tour together. See the guy walking in the background...that's the guy who takes care of Brian's guitars. When I see one of the crew guys I have to smile because I remember the tape they made at the end of QAL's last tour. "Don't tell Jill!"!! Great spot! That is Pete Malandrone, Brian's guitar tech -- he is a very nice man and when the Red Special is on tour, it travels with him. I always thought that would be the most frightening responsibility. It is completely irreplaceable. Here is an interview with him from 2011 www.queenonline.com/en/features/guitar-mans-man-pete-malandrone-interview/
