That Durbin track is just filler a track for his EP. The only notable thing is that he did not do it on Idol so it is new, all the other tracks are the studio versions of the Idol performance songs.
ETA: Adam's Walmart EP had little to do with FYE, so perhaps this karaoke song by JD means nothing.

Is that a rhetorical question? No, I am fearless, I took an oath, didn't you watch BAYWATCH? Plus, according to Adam anything is better than meeting in a seedy bar. LOL, I don't know that he said that exactly. He just said it wasn't likely, but it COULD happen ... Whoa, haven't listened to the Durbs cover yet, other than the first few lines, which sounded note for note. Nothing like saddling him with an iconic song or anything. Or is that the strategy? They can't blame the material, because it's been beloved for 15 years and people with an affection for that song (which has been used in TV and movies for a decade and a half) are going to respond. I'd see it as a crap shoot. Either people are going to love a rebirth of the song or they're going to say, "Huh? What is he bringing to the song that Green Day didn't?" I've been staying away from seedy bars recently just in case. Why waste my time? Unfortunately it's harder for me to meet someone on the beach who I'd be interested in, if you know what I mean. I'm barely settled in the a m when my stand is surrounded by teeny boppers. It's embarrassing but amusing. Maybe I should relocate to Fire Island or Bora Bora to improve my chances. Or maybe LA? No, that would be too stalkerish. Unless you're looking for a roommate Susie? That sounded a little stalkerish, too. Maybe I should just cut my losses and get to bed. Fun, as always - not bed, ATOP.

Man, Durbin has no vocal control! Listen to how wobbly his voice gets every time he sings that last note--"l-i-i-i-i-i-ife."

These EPs are just souvenirs for idol fans of S10. With the exception of Scotty and Lauren, I don't think they reflect what one should expect from their debut albums.

I know nothing about this. Did I read that the sales and response to the EP will in part determine whether and what type of recording contract they may be offered? Or is it totally unrelated?

I don't find them 'bad' just no animation in them, like he was only 1/2 there while posing : It appears to be the style they use. Look at some of their other photos. All seems to look like this. They are intended for online press -- so they are high contract, almost garish photos. I see ??? Not a great photographer or style or something :

LMAO! Don't throw offers around lightly!! I need to shed my inland shackles and move to the beach cities, where I work (90-mile-a-day commute wore out its welcome years ago, but moving and renting my house is even more daunting). Having a [gay, awesome] roommate would make that decision much easier. So if you are ever serious about moving to SoCal, we might have to brainstorm ... Speaking of awesome ... this was written during the Top 3 of AI by Jim David, published on HuffPo: "My (and the world's) Obsession with Adam Lambert" (He's more dead on than he realizes, I think ...) The entire thing is quotable, but here are the first few paragraphs: Back on March 17 I blogged about Adam Lambert's huge talent after seeing only two of his early American Idol performances. I believe I was one of the first to write about him and was afraid I would come across as too over-the-top in my praise and ultimately be exposed a pathetic loser.
Just call me Kreskin. Not only has Lambert completely dominated the competition since his first appearance, he has spawned a viral Internet industry. Countless articles have been written discussing his voice, fashion sense, performances and sexuality. Every bit of his past has been uncovered, every available YouTube video scrutinized. Ebay lists 11 pages of Adam Lambert memorabilia, such as dolls, dinner plates and an Adam Lambert Italian Charm Watch. TMZ stalks him outside of restaurants, evidently the final arbiter of mainstream success and definitely the final nail in the coffin of his privacy.
Writers have hurled superlatives as if he were the second coming of Elvis, Streisand and Al Freaking Jolson. Ann Powers of the LA Times called him "the kind of pop star who can change people's lives." Lynn Crosbie of Canada's Globe and Mail gushed, "Lambert is so gifted, he destroys the show's entire premise, which is the possibility that anyone can be an American Idol." www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-david/my-and-the-worlds-adam-la_b_197529.html

Nice article, Susie. Takes me way back. I was an AI innocent and had never followed any of the internet blogs until AI was over and I was going into Adam withdrawal. What a shock to find out that there were a ton of people arguing and fighting over the contestants, and so many people felt like I did when NAL won!!! I can't believe that I missed so much! MJs was the first blog I ever posted on. A bit scary at the time, but so fun. Wow! Have I changed since then. Never read this follow up post to the original written about Adam during the AI competition. Sorta a walk down memory lane.

I can't answer the recording contract portion because I haven't been following it that closely. However, I have followed the contracts that were offered to Scotty and Lauren. From a monetary standpoint, their contracts were sort of stingy. Given that Scotty and Lauren were the top 2, I would expect that any contract offered to those finishing lower would be even more stingy. The comments on the James track that resonate with me is that he is a great mimic. I had not thought a lot about that, but it could be that James is a bit of a savant when it comes to mimicking music. It remains to be seen how he does with new music.

I know nothing about this. Did I read that the sales and response to the EP will in part determine whether and what type of recording contract they may be offered? Or is it totally unrelated? These are Idol products -- that are only bought by Idol fans and really have nothing to do with the albums that the Idol's put out. No one who is not an Idol fan would ever buy them. They are limited distribution, digital and Walmart -- and the JD Green Day clone track is exclusive to Walmart. There is one exclusive track for each of the top 4. There is also a Season Favorites digital only album that has more tracks. These EPs have nothing to do with their recording contracts or amount of money they get when signed. -- UMG has a contract that sets the amount of advances they pay which are specified based upon the finish order. #1 gets the most money. -- UMG execs have said that some Idol finalists may get an EP rather than a full album. That EP would be new songs, not from Idol. -- This JD track was autotuned to make it sound like that. There is not way he can do that live. Also has reverb and is sweetened.
