Mel B? Well that will add some spice to the show, (yes I know, dumb pun, but I think it is true), because she has a ton of reality show experience and you know that she will go after both Adam and Iggy Azalea equally, and those two mostly. It will make for entertaining TV, but I don't think it will be helpful for the contestants, who a) will see more attention going to the judges instead of them, and b) will get confusing messages. Adam always said that during idol that was one of the hardest things, that they were being pulled into different directions by everyone on and off the show, and some others lost their own self somewhere in the shuffle. Having a judge undermining the message, it will be harder for the contestants to keep their focus and to trust the judge they are assigned to.
Why do I think that Mel B will go after Iggy? Because she used to be the controversial one, who is now trying to clean up her act and go mainstream, and she also is the woman on the show, so there is that. And with Adam, Mel B has somewhat of a bone to pick since that weird award show in England, where Adam for some reason had to use his segment to point out to the audience that the envelope opening ceremonies are fake. Mel B did not like that one, and I can't blame her, actually. She and Simon also commented to each other on the UK X-factor performance with Queen, and I wish we knew what was said, but while Mel B was glad to applaud, I also think she has a good read on Adam, knows he is ambitious, and will gladly steal from him as a judge. Adam is sharp too, and so it will be entertaining TV. Not sure how the contestants will fare with this.
I think Guy will benefit the most. He is more laid back, and therefore less of a target.

You make some good points Adamme...some I had not remembered...but re the contestants...they have their mentors to give them more focus...something the contestants did not have on Idol. And the most vulnerable of those have Adam, who knows intimately how to allay that confusion and keep them focussed. Re Adam's exposure of the 'needless envelope' episode...this is another of those periodic missteps we all make...and he deserves a ribbing/skewer but it is not a huge thing. Maybe I am just unobservant but I have never noticed Mel B going 'after' someone...but she will fill a vocal void and she does demand her share of attention. I think that is what Adam needs to get comfortable with doing on the public stage...we know he has the wit and charm and comedic presence but so far, he has been more of a 'reactor' than an instigator in talk situations. I bet this is his personal goal in this judging situation. We have seen how much more confident and comfortable with talking he has become on the concert stage. Now he needs that same level of comfort-growth on the smaller, yet bigger stage, of this sort.

Why would judges "go after" each other? Are the judges competing somehow? (never watched XF, so idk...) also, if Mel B doesn't have a group of contestants then how is she in the "judges competition" (assuming there is one).
Also, what was the "envelope" incident you ladies are talking about?
