CHR format stations play the most popular 20, 30 or 40 songs plus a few new songs. That is the definition of the format. By definition, these are also the top selling songs in the US. These stations are the stations that attract listeners who are interested in new music and who are mostly age 16 - 29 years old. Now ya see, I know we've discussed this here on ATop ad nauseum, but this still surprises me. I've yet to meet one teenager or young adult who listens to the radio. I was really curious about this subject a few months ago, so I specifically asked my 20-yr-old nephew and his friends if they ever listen to the radio and without exception they all said NO. They find new music via word of mouth and on the internet. They never turn on the radio when driving to work--they just listen to their own playlists. Same with the teenagers in my extended family. They just walk around glued to their iPods. My youngest son occasionally listens to radio while commuting, but has no favorite station and prefers his iPod, too. If radio is still so incredibly powerful/influential then maybe Adam's entire promo budget should be directed at Program Directors. But what form would this take? Bribes? Gifts? Wining and dining? And here in Canada, I'm lucky to live in a city where I actually *did* get sick of hearing WWFM on our local station!! And FYE, and IIHY... ALL THE TIME!!!! : (well, I never got sick of hearing FYE...) Eventually, when those three songs fell off the station's play list-- and it took a LONG TIME--I stopped listening to the station. Couldn't stand to hear the same boring pop songs being played over and over and over and over and over.

Looks like RCA did a really good job getting FYE and GNL in mass retail in preparation for the upcoming Adam promotion. What makes you say this?

Yesterday, on the Orlando radio station I listen to, I thought I heard familiar voice say, "Hi, it's Adam Lambert." And then WWFM played. First time I've heard his little "hi there" (whatever those are called) on that station.
(I thought about David Cook's new song, which I like, but which hasn't, I guess, caught on BIG yet. I think it's likely that some folks have kind of forgotten about David Cook. He's singing his song all over TV, so I think it still has a good chance - but, in comparison, can you imagine anyone really "forgetting" who Adam Lambert is? I don't think that could happen to Adam . . . love him or hate him, he's kinda unforgetable . . .)

I have to say that when he tweets to someone and makes their day like this, I am just as happy as the person he tweets to. The flailing is all kinds of awesome. I would give up a tweet from Adam to make someone that happy!

Bear with me here.. I am catching the voice on a repeat and never saw the finale.. Cee Lo and vicci are singing Love is a Battlefield and I looked up (at TV).. and... their costumes.. so Last Year... Adam already wore that.. (maybe not in red cause red is not Black so points to CL)... sorry just thought it was hilarious.. Ok.. back to the numbers and radio discussion.. my DD's and I don't listen much anymore.. because they are always the same songs..even WWFM always came on at 3pm and 5pm I think it was.. Though my youngest just asked me what station we used to listen too.. so maybe she will tune in again until sick of the current batch of songs..
