Goes along with Marieppf gorgeous pic... I remember all the anxiety leading up to this performance. It was known that he would sing Starlight, but people were stressing about it.. going on and on in post after post... I felt almost ill reading them. Keep in mind that we are 3 hours behind the West Coast-- so I'm reading and worrying and still hours away from being able to see it. Then.. suddenly.. the tenor of the posts changed. I remember the first one vividly. "Wow. That was... that was LOVELY." And then one after another, posters went wild. It was like that before (and after) every single one of his Idol performances, too. It took me awhile but I have finally learned not to worry about Adam before a performance. He ALWAYS delivers. The STELLAR performances far outnumber the one or two that may have come up a bit short. It was hard, but I have learned to trust. Lord, it took me so long to get over the performance anxiety...I have to check myself still though....I think Mardi Gras in Australia did it for me...I was so nervous waiting for him....

We joke about it, but the feed of Adam info from multiple sources is a daily habit, even an addiction in some cases. This has gone on fairly steadily with brief interruptions at most for two years. It's understandable that a longer interruption is going to cause more than a little boredom for the small group that has made it part of their daily lives for two years and they may get a little irrational and upset about it at times along with joking and grumbling. It's something I think about with regards to myself. I think Adam would hope for us to #getoneofourown (although we often do have happy and fulfilling lives, we've just made stanning him a small part of them, just like any other enthusiasm or obsession), and it makes me wonder what the actual difference is to him or to his label between a hardcore 24/7 stan and a more casual, but still album buying/concert attending fan. Then I realize that that really doesn't matter. For me it comes down to is what I'm doing making me happy? Can I adjust in ways that still make me happy if the experience of fandom continues to change or evolve? rabbitrabbit: Had to log in to tell you how much I love this post. You've just done a great job of summarizing my wavering feelings about this whole adam-fan experience, which is a new thing for me, so that it's sometimes hard for me to understand what I'm up to. But then I think about how much I've learned from this experience, about music--from Cassie's masterclass and such things, and also just about pop music in general from different links people post here, and also about what I like, musically. And I've learned a lot about an industry--the mainstream music and radio industry--that was entirely opaque to me before. And about all that goes along with that--image, and marketing, and accessibility, and 100s of intricate choices. And I feel like I've also learned invaluable things in a more general human sense, about how one can interact with and get to know strangers, about the way our preconceptions can fade away online in really wonderful ways, when we're all anonymous, but find new and curious names and real and charming personalities, and about belonging to a defined group but also differentiating oneself from that group in various ways...(I've never even had a facebook account, because I'm an incorrigible luddite, so this forum alone has taught me so much about a new kind of social world.) I've learned a lot about the universality of different things--about how the same half-smile in a photo appeals to the same instincts in someone in the Phillipines as in someone in Alabama, and about how the same chatty joke is funny to someone in Kyrgystan as it is to someone in Austin, Texas. And most of all, like you said, I feel I've learned a new thing that makes me happy, almost a new way to be happy, like the joy one gets in stretching a new muscle. Of course I was plenty happy before, it's not that something was missing in my life that Adam-fandom filled, and if I somehow drift away from this fandom for some reason, I'm sure other things would slip in to plug the gap. But this is a new joy, and new joys are always particularly bright, especially if they are inspired by so bright and joyful a personality and talent. So that while I frequently manage to weird myself out with my obsession, I rarely manage to make myself feel guilty about it. Happiness is a valid end in itself, I think, if no one gets hurt in the process. I know there are down-sides to my Adam-stanning, and I think it's good to be aware of them, but the upsides are quite wonderful and ample enough to make up for plenty more downsides. Because, as you point out, in the end this is not something we do for Adam but something we do for ourselves.

I head back "home" to the South next week and not looking forward to the heat!! I have turned into a wimp Northerner!! I seriously just missed that one track -- so at least I get a new Adam song -- poor audio and all! -------------------------- And no wonder Adam fans are a bit cranky. We had Idol, Idol Tour, album promo then GNT for 7 months. I am not addicted but I must be habituated. Yes, this is the longest span without performances. It's the performances I miss, not the tweets or Papps pics. Thank goodness for Moscow and Quebec!

As far as Adam's twitter activity goes I think Adam is a master at employing the most powerful reward model used in operant conditioning. It is what makes gambling addictive and that is "variable ratio of reward". Adam's use of twitter is totally unpredictable and ranges everywhere from little or no tweets to full fledged twitter parties with no predictability and no regularity. This is the variable ratio that actually intensifies interest and response. In operant conditioning if you want to extinguish a behavior you can do so by rewarding it on a constant basis with the same level of reward every time. The reward becomes so monotonous that the behavior is actually discouraged rather than encouraged. The quickest way to solidify a behavior is to vary both the rate and the intensity of the reward. All of these people who are kvetching about Adam not tweeting are actually paying MORE attention to him than usual because the ratio of reward changed. I'm not in the least worried about people losing interest because he has never gone anywhere near long enough without tweeting to actually loose people's attention. What a great analogy. I love it and it rings true. It makes me think of Gaga who has been ever present and constantly trying to raise the bar for years now. She never went away. By the time BTW came out it felt like a continuation instead of a new era. Madonna always knew when to take a break and build mystique. Thanks everyone for the walks down memory lane, I love hearing about what was going on in fandom during the times before I became a fan. Thanks also for the wonderful thoughts on being a healthy crazy verses an anxious obnoxious crazy. Really wonderful to read.

Isn't this that station that Liam Mckuen (sp?) does his Adam Lambert Hour on? I thought I remembered reading that they were doing a huge rebranding PR push using images of current artists. I think they also had ads with Gaga and someone else. rihannsupf, just to answer your question ;D No, Classic Hits is a NZ national radio network... I find it really impressive that they are just using ONE artist for their promo - and full page ads at that! Whereas Liam McEwan's station - The Flea - is a one off, small, privately owned (I think), boutique station situated in a suburb on the North Shore of Auckland. Which makes his weekly, world-wide show kinda even more impressive, as well as the fact that he is only 15. Lol... I just raced out to get the NZ Herald so I could take a better picture of full page ad and upload. It's too big to scan and then I see eri9 had scanned the NZ Women's Weekly ad, which is way betterer. Thanks gurl! you RAWK ;D ;D ;D

aloha thanks for dropping by with your story! It's such a great feeling when someone new is turned on positively to Adam, especially when you're the person who introduced him to them. Bet your sessions are filled with his music playing! That's got to make it a little more bearable, right? WooHoo!! to you and your trainer! Well, I've found she gets distracted when I play the GNT Live.. so I made a couple of workout playlists which include some Adam songs but mostly a lot of other music. It's better for me if she doesn't lose count. Hmmm. She sounds like an accident waiting to happen if she listens to Adam in the car.
