I have just discovered "The Glee Project." I want to recommend you check it out. This is reality TV that seems REAL. The premise is that they are looking for a new cast member of Glee. So, it IS a casting call. Acknowledged loud and clear. It is about vocal talent. But it is also about look, moves, connection to the TV audience, ability to show a character, and ability to work with others. It is refreshing to have that acknowledged and included in the script. This is not a popularity contest. Viewers don't vote. The creators of the show choose the individual who is not called back each week. And they discuss why. I compelling look at the entertainment/TV business.

I just finished watching the third episode which focused on "vulnerability." (The first two were "individuality" and "theatricality".) The participants were asked to tap into their weakest, most vulnerable part of themselves and show that on camera. It reminded me of "A Chorus Line." Adam tie in? The group number was "Mad World", and like Adam, each contestant showed their private pain during the song. It was a very moving segment.

What a wonderful time to celebrate YOU on your birthday. You are facing a major life crisis and still you live life to the fullest, follow your passions, and share them with us. I remember a colleague in the past who was going thru a personal crisis that would devastate most people. Yet, she continued to come to work with dedication, passion and positivity. I asked her how she could possibly do that, and she replied, "What else can I do? What choice do I have?"

That hit me viscerally. She could have shut down. Quit. Taken time off. Coasted thru the job relying on others to carry the weight. Complained and whined. But, to her, the only option was to carry on with her life, face the challenge but refuse to let it overwhelm her or incapacitate her. She chose to embrace life head on, full force, without sacrificing any of her special personality. I see you doing the same thing.

So, I celebrate YOU. Thank you for being so awesome, and being the collective visual memory for this place. Hope your day is joyous.
