I don't think Adam DOES androgyny, I think he IS natually androgen, and it is just a question a) how much he shows it at any given time, and b) whether that is what he wants the focus to be on. What I am saying is, if he lets his soul swing freely, everything will naturally be there, both the male and female parts and all the other things this world has not yet boxed into M and F categories. He has to tuck certain parts of his persona away, metaphorically speaking, to not be androgynous. And he has become pretty good at dialing it up and down intentionally and at will when he is on stage, on TV, in interviews, etc. He is able to bring it back out intentionally at any given moment, and usually can get a laugh out of a crowd, when he suddenly dials it up or at least some good will. But I don't think he is always understood when he does that. Btw, he can do this both with imagery that would be perceived 'female' in nature or imagery or gestures, speech that typically would be considered 'gay'. He plays with these elements interchangeably. But here is the thing: Adam has obviously learned over time that if he does what comes naturally to him, that all the attention and focus tends to go there, to the detriment of other things he may want to say at that moment. And so at times it is in his interest to draw the attention away from this constant big topic overshadowing all others. I think he did try that with TOH, and succeeded to some degree. Right now he is on private time, and can and should obviously do whatever he wants, but given that he sends these pictures quite conscientiously out to the world, I agree with those here that suspect he is getting us ready for another shift in persona, one with more androgyny as part of it. Be it the present political climate and all that is going on, or be it a personal artistic vision that makes him go there more strongly so, I think that a newer and updated version of androgyny on full display is coming, and that Bowie is probably leading the pack in personal influence and role model for Adam. He now has Freddie, David Bowie, Prince, MJ and George Michael all on the other side, leaving him to having to find his own path rather than being grandfathered in by one of them. That is a lot of angel's wings to carry him forward, but it sure also makes the path a little less easy to envision, and a lot more lonely. He is encountering that on so many different levels of life, he may just want to color his world more brightly for the next album, just to counteract that weight. Maybe he also has other reasons to draw him there again. I am glad he can lean on his friends as he can, and has their support and ours too, of course. I love Adam in all his visual variety. It will be fresh and new again, whatever he comes up with, and he will probably go the high fashion route this time around, I would think. Less glittery, but still very fabulous. Thank goodness there is still Boy George who certainly knows how tough it can be

Ha ha - I just showed my dh Adam's pic from the Bowie tribute. I explained where he was and his remark was, "Hell, I would have gone to it in full make-up too!" I wish I could explain to you how funny this was coming from my husband (NOT a wearer of makeup!). He so fully embraces Adam and his causes because he knows that I do - it was fun for me to hear him say that. Love the post!

I know I'm pushing the boundaries of OT, but since the discussion here has been the speculation of what direction Adam may take this year, including possibly some political action, I submit Meryl Streep's comments at the Golden Globes tonight:

I'd really like to see LaLaLand. Adam seems to like it. My local 10 movie theatre isn't showing it...would have to drive an hour to see it. Boo.

IMO there is no such thing as getting laid "too much." Really? What is the magic number? Where are you reading these comments? Please let me know. I would avoid that place. First, it's no ones business. And second, how would anyone know that? That's a really funny comment. I hope everyone is getting laid as much as they can. Even Adam. Sex is not the enemy. I guess there is a first for everything. I have NEVER read "aids" and "lol" in the same sentence. Spine chilling actually. There is nothing remotely funny or lol in hoping that someone does not contract aids. imo of course. ymmv Look I'm not sure why your putting words in my mouth. I never said aids is funny. So please do not presume things, to the contrary. And make assumptions about me thank you. My lol was to the comments I read on his ig page. I am not putting words in your mouth. Nor would I do that to anyone here. It is how you wrote it that gave me great pause. One does have a responsibility to write as clearly as possible on the internet. Many innocent comments are misconstrued. It happens a lot. People get angry with other people because tone and real intentions do not come across well. I am not presuming or making assumptions. Punctuation would have avoided this. IMO, the English language, that you are posting in should be as closely respected as possible. There was absolutely no way that I, and maybe anyone else, knew that your "lol" was in regards to comments on his IG page. None. If you said it was, that would have resulted in a totally different comment by me.

I love Adam's red lips, blue suit tribute to David Bowie!! He loojs good! And the FYE album cover has been my favourite of Adam's cover art. I had the picturecas my PC screen background for a long time. All this talk about gender norms reminds me of the strong gender typing when I was in secondary school in the 70's. I was half way through 9th grade before females won the right to wear pants to school. And don't even get me started on how females had to fight to be given the same opportunities in math and science given to males. The female high school and college students I've had as interns in the last 15 years have not been subject to this kind of gender bias. We've come a long way in allowing women to be themselves in areas that were traditionally considered the domain on men. But men still have a long way to go to gain the same freedom to be themselves in areas considered traditionally female. So glad that Adam feels comfortable with his feminine side!! Amen to this. Share similar experiences with you, even though probably a few years behind you. Both in Germany as well as in US. --------- I am not sure though that it is a question for Adam of feeling comfortable with his female side, but rather that he feels a need to fight for and protect his female side. Maybe I am projecting my own thoughts on him here, that is quite possible, but that is how I felt in reverse. Whenever I got the direct or sometimes indirect request to behave more 'girly', to try to fit the norms a bit more, my instincts never really made me question what I felt, it made me question the sanity of the world surrounding me. I learned that while my more male side was not only the 'bread-winner' and was respected, at the same time, the world sent me the message that I had to hide that side. Which is utterly absurd. Just that the folks making this demand on me were unaware of that. And occasionally, that 'male' side needed to be protected, from within or from outside. That happened too. I am seeing similar mechanisms in Adam too. Just that he does all this publicly and as an artist, which makes all this so much braver than I ever had to be. And yes, I agree, that for men showing their female side, is still much harder and the rejection of that is far more wide-spread, especially in the US. Thank goodness the UK made it a bit easier and allowed somebody like Boy George to be celebrated, when the US was still totally unable to deal with that. I'm also glad he is still around, and Elton John, even though he is far less demonstratively proudly out. Kind of like Ricki Martin, who is out, because that his how things went in life, but for the most part more private about it. Neither of them is party or club kid or ever was, as far as I can tell. Then there is of course also Madonna, who fought her own gender norms and the battles that resulted from it, and proudly walked forward. Thanks that she is there too, I suppose. So, there are still a few around that share Adam's battles in some ways. But many important ones are not.
