Question from someone who knows nothing about it. When a song appears on this site what does it mean? That it would make it to the album? Or what else? ??? No need for much info , just simple words, thank you in advance. ...same questions here - "When a song appears on this site what does it mean?" does it merely mean that the song was completed? What is the process of getting a song listed? Who initiates the listing? Is there any verification process? Is there any significance in terms of "it will be the single", released "soon""? Maybe Q3 or Kanadie can answer in more detail. Song writing is different than screenwriting or TV writing. (For one thing, the writers have the power in the music industry, but they're bottom of the food chain in film. In TV they have more power than they do in film.) ASCAP is their union. ASCAP ensures the writers collect on all the royalties due to them. When a song is registered with the union, it's essentially making a public record so it cannot be stolen. It's essentially a copyright. The same way most screenwriters register their scripts with the Writer's Guild in order to make them public record to say, "This is mine. I wrote it. It was registered on THIS date." And, if in the event, there is a discrepancy of ownership down the line, the union can verify when and where the script was registered. My guess is it is the same with songs. ETA: Oops, I see Kanadie has already responded. That too. ETA2: And I am sure registering is required in order to collect future royalties.

ASCAP question is well answered already.
Sometimes a song is registered in ASCAP and does not make the album....
Here is the "missing" track from FYE that Adam tweeting that fans should let it go because it would not be released:

From the interview: "However, if you were to ask me what is the number one thing I’ve been inspired most by her [Adele], is that she’s reminded me that what’s ultimately most important is the “voice”. She’s the greatest proof of that – everyone craves her voice. Even without using sound effects, beats and special synthesizers, she’s reminded me how a song can be strong by carefully infusing it with emotions and feelings, and a great vocal quality. Without a doubt, Adele has reminded me that this is really what’s most important." Yes! The voice! Yes!

My favorite part of the interview... I love how he always comes to our defense. "A: Nevertheless, I’m really happy that I have fans that care so much for me. In this job sometimes things can get really tough, so I think it’s wonderful to have fans that are so supportive of me." terraj.livejournal.com/7120.html#cutid1
