I still love Bette but she was amazing in those early shows -- when the world was young and not so innocent. I last saw her in 2004 and she was still pretty awesome!

Call me a cock-eyed optimist. I've read the statistics about the dismal success of Idol second albums, and second albums in general. I have read the statistics on the industry-wide decline in album sales. I know that producing a hit album is a crap-shoot, even with all the best players in the business working to put it together. Still, I think that Adam #2 is gonna be huge!
1. Adam has said it will feature his voice front and center. No one in popular music today has such an exquisite instrument. No one. Even critics of Adam admit his voice is extraordinary. Play a song with Adam's voice soaring and floating and people from age nine to ninety are impressed. An album full of that beautiful voice is going to get widespread recognition.
2. Adam has said that it will be personal and real; talking about themes that are universal and that many people can relate to. He has said he is collaborating in the writing of all the songs. If I consider Aftermath and Broken Open, that bodes very well for the new songs. Even if I consider Pop Goes the Camera, that song was clever and painted a verbal picture of fame... even before Adam had experienced it directly. With the amount of time and attention Adam has devoted to developing the music for this album, I think he is gonna have some "deep" songs that many will resonate with.
3. Adam is working with the best in the business. And they are excited about the music being made. Yes, it is their job to be excited. They have an investment in the outcome. But, I think they are also being genuine. Think of what Adam did on Idol. How well he collaborated with the musicians and won their respect. How he crafted every song. How he milked it for all it was worth. How he changed it up, surprised us, made us appreciate musical styles we hadn't before. If Adam put out an album with all his Idol performances on it, I would buy it in a heartbeat. It was just a reality competition, but his performances were artistry. Just think about what he can do with the resources now at his disposal, and all the time he needs to use them artistically.
4. Adam has grown as an artist in the past two years. He has grown vocally: his voice is stronger, richer, subtler. He has matured as a person. He has come into his own, and experienced his own power and creativity and had it embraced. He has interacted with fans, the people in the biz, the media, and he knows what they want, knows when he can push boundaries and how far, and knows that it is his realness, his genuineness, his spirit that touches so many. He is a smart guy, and he is, despite his protests, "that deep." He will craft an album that will appeal to many.
5. Adam has paid his dues in the media and in the biz these last two years. He has charmed the pants off most of them. By and large, his reputation now is as an international super star and a genuine nice guy. (Not "openly gay singer" or "former AI runner-up".) I think people in the business are eagerly anticipating his new album, and will be quick to embrace it.
In short, he is a great singer, a great guy, a media magnet, a talented musician, and a savvy businessman. All the ingredients are there for a huge hit. I can't wait.

4msrmyn I'm way behind on the thread, but I just wanted to say that I will post the Boise concert tomorrow. I had started it and needed to quit to take care of other business. I decided I couldn't just leave it hanging like that so I decided to complete it. Then, we had a storm and the power went out for about 20 hours. At this point, I don't know whether I can do any more concerts. I want to do them but RL keeps happening. I didn't mean to post this now. I was grabbing it to add to Boise. Sorry I messed up the quote part. Just wanted to say I by no means have the talent to locate all of the great stuff you do but I have found a few links, radio interviews, and pictures and will put in a meager post for Seattle and Portland. It is a lot of work and I appreciate so much what you have contributed to revisit the GNT. Thanks so much.

Cassie -- I agree with everything your wrote. And yet, I am working hard to keep my fangirl spirit in check.
I could construct a similar, but different, list of why Cook would sell 500K units. But looks like he will have to work hard to hit 100K and that is a far cry from the 1.4 million units he sold of his debut.
I know that Adam is NOT Cook. And I sincerely and objectively believe that Adam is a singularly talented artist who has only revealed the smallest amount of his true capabilities. He is also smart, strategic, motivated and self-aware. Maybe most important, he seems to be the happiest person on earth right now. I think that positive energy is being focused on this album.
But so many big artists are missing right now -- not just Idols -- Xtina, Britney, even Gaga by Gaga standards.
It is brutal out there.
The good news is that music that include vocals are doing well. That is another + to add to the Adam list. To me -- it feels like it is the right time for an artist like Adam right now.

Not only will we once again spin in the wonder of Adam's voice; we will have his words - his thoughts, perceptions and feelings, to resonate within us and beyond us.

Just home from a long exhausting day, but after skimming the last few pages I just had to log on and squeee at the idea of something BIG coming up soon. I can't imagine what it could be but I'm already excited and when the times comes I may completely lose what is left of my mind. LOL.
I like what you're putting out into the universe, Cassie. I agree with many of your points.
No basis in anything but gut feeling, but I think what sets Adam apart from other Idol's soph albums is that after everything he's done over the past couple of years, the public is still genuinely interested in him, and music biz people want him to succeed.
I can't wait!
ETA: Just read Q3's post above, and I'll add that I think Adam is way savvier than many if not most former Idols, which gives him another advantage.
