How do you back up a DVR? Tech tard here. :( It depends on the DVR. I have a Topfield DVR and I can connect it with a USB cable to my laptop and via that to the external hard drive - very easy! But I do know that some DVR:s have different external connections, some don't have USB, for example, so you should check the manual. I had no idea you could do that. Is that how people "capture" shows and post them and make gifs etc.? Definitely going to ask my techie son if I can make a back up. Cookeejar I have been wondering as well. Is there a dvd of Season 8? I'm pretty sure I've seen people say that they watched season 8 again. ??? I know we can watch Adam's part on ATOP, but it would be fun to have a DVD of the season. How about one where he wins at the end? You techies could figure that out. ;D

Even after a DVR goes kablooey you can still retrieve its hard drive and save the info to another drive. You might have to nose around for the step by step but I know it can be done.
I still have all of Adam's Season 8 bits on my go to DVR and revisit them often. But if the DVR ever dies I'll be sure and save at least the hard drive :D

I made dvd's of all the episodes using DVD Flick (a free program). devenlane.blogspot.com/p/2009-american-idol.html

I also have all S8 and other TV shows Adam was on saved on my DVR, but my DVR is now 85% full, I have to either delete or back them up before #2 storm starts.

I didn't know the full episodes were available anywhere. This must be how many folks (like you) are making their DVD's. I might try to do that. The bigger he gets, the more fun it will be to see him have to submit himself to the judging of lesser beings.

Just a giggle this morning Last night, was talking to DH (husband) about the "illuminati" tweet. In his mind, the word it linked with the book he is currently listening to which is a British history about the US in the 1700-1800's. There, it just is refering to the educated "intelligencia" of the time - NOT a secret society or anything like that. He has read the Davinci Code, so he is aware of that, but didn't think it was any big deal or anything people actually believed. I sent him the links to the Gaga, Rhianna & Adam crazy stuff - this is his reply "OK… these folks need to get a life and some heavy duty psychological help!"

Since it's a slow morning/day/evening... (and if you have 1.44 extra time) now is a good time to learn some Finnish. Here's the vid from which that gif is made: The Big Bang Theory Sheldon learns Finnish He says sisään, koira and vetoomus perfectly.

However, the backuping is usually really simple, if the DVR has the right connections so that it can be attached to an external backup device, so you should check those first. My old DVR did not have any out connections (I'm looking for the right word and it's the top of my tongue but I can't find it...) but the newer models typically have at least a USB outlet or some other way to connect it to another device. It might be that some kind of an application is also required, but they are usually pretty simple to use. Mine uses an application that has been specically made for this DVR brand and it was available at their website for downloading.
