One of the marks of a good lyric is when each person can identify with it or interpret it their own way. So, this is just my interpretation of another part of the lyrics to OoL.
They say we'll rot in hell But I don't think we will They've branded us enough Outlaws of Love.
The last time he sings this chorus, he joins the second and third line with one breath. To me that says that the hell they may experience is the treatment they are receiving now on earth, being branded for loving one another. Just like the subtle statement he made with the "scarlet letter" on his top hat in GNT.
A very sad commentary on our society.... or the homophobic parts of it. No, not Adam's usual style of lightness and positivity. But he has confessed to sometimes feeling the load of the responsibility to always be positive and upbeat no matter what is happening. There have been situations in the past where he suffered, and only hinted at it much after the fact. At the time, he displayed the attitude that the show must go on, it's no big deal, I'm looking at the positive aspects of it. To me, this song depicts the realness Adam has spoken of for album #2. It is courageous of him to open himself up to us and show us the darker side. Bravo!

Tippy-toeing in and whispering, tentatively. Adam had some pitch issues in the concert. There, I've said it. I think it was a mistake to not have keyboards to fill in the sound. It left the backing instrumentals thin and incomplete. Especially when there was no backing track, like on PH. At other times, the backing track was almost inaudible on the YTs I watched. It is at these times, that Adam sometimes struggles to find the pitch (like at the beginning of Fever, before the instruments and backing track really kick in). Taking nothing away from the awesome performance, the killer improv, the joy he exuded. And, the new song..... perfection. Almost sounded a cappella. Exquisite. The voice at its best. No question. Just trying to keep it realz. [Slinking off to hide behind the sofa.]And that is why we love and respect you - you tell it like it is. You and Adam #realness

Yeah I agree! Not intense orchestration liked Soaked, but something lush and tasteful would certainly do the trick. I also think if you listen to the guitar melody that Monte was playing, that it will play a big part in the song as the guitar did in WWFM, though different than WWFM, in the same vain as it! Also, I am surprised that this Outlaws of Love does not contain a bridge, as I really think that Adam excels in writing bridges. Oh kanadie I'm so happy you agree with me! Yes, yes not like Soaked but lush and tasteful!!! You're an expert and your opinion means a lot! I hear a flute and violins. The song is so hauntingly beautiful and earthy to me. Like a prayer on a breeze whistling through the forest. Saying love is beautiful, stop branding me, enough is enough of this hell.

It would flow better, and would also tie in to the branding image. Of course, "rot" is a more shocking word in this context, and maybe that's why he chose it.

Somehow I picture this song with strings on the album. Violin, something like that, I don't know. I would die. Would love a solo cello, which can be so like the male voice. Maybe a little duet. ETA: As I've continued reading, of course, others had this same idea. It must be a good one.
