I think though, we are getting distracted by a red herring. It's not about the lyrics. The lyrics of top 40 hits can be funny, or referential, or clever, or "empowering" right now, but they are highly secondary to the sound: hooks and beats. The voice is just another instrument, no more valid than any other at producing this sound. I could sing the chorus to Justin's "Oh Baby" right now, it is an earworm based on melody. Case in point. Party Rock anthem. Overplayed to the max, but as fun, cheap and addictive as doritos. The beat is inescapable: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQ6zr6kCPj8&ob=av3e144,781,381 views in four months on the official youtube the video actually is a tongue in cheek take at a song going "viral" every day I'm shufflin'... 144,781,381 views.....and I never heard of this song! :-/ Once for me was enough, though. Was this a 'one hit wonder' type of thing are did this group have other hits? This is the group's - LMFAO (that's their name) breakthrough song, though it's their second album, so too soon to tell: "The single has gone to number one in Australia, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Denmark, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. It also reached top five in Norway and Italy. The song spent eleven weeks at number one in New Zealand and ten weeks in Australia... and sold 2,500,000 digital downloads in the United States" according to wikipedia. Currently they are opening for Ke$ha's tour.

Was thinking this last night listening to lyrics of some song by some body on KISS FM: Blah blah blah blah blah blah barbie Working at the Arby's I look like Madonna But < something that sounded like floss, ) like Ivanna Seriously, I was thinking it would actually be a challenge to think up lyrics as bad as the ones in some of the top 40 songs right now. Scary. I think though, we are getting distracted by a red herring. It's not about the lyrics. Even Rolling in the Deep has a pounding rhythm. Oh, I know that is true. But really painful lyrics are still really painful.

thx!!! this is quite hilarious: " i can sing quiet and loud"... Dear Adam, are those the BEST words you could find to describe your gift? out of the plethora of other words in your vernacular that YOU could've USED? ;D Well, If Adam needs better words to describe his gift, or if he is too modest to recognize what he has, I will loan him my words. I am quoting myself from a couple of months ago. What is it about Adam Lambert’s voice that makes it so special? It’s many things, some tangible and some ethereal. The first thing many comment on is his range. Recordings of his voice have him singing as low as a Bb2 or a C3 (the C below middle C) and as high as A5 (close to two octaves above middle C), in full head voice, not falsetto. There are even a couple of brushes with a Bb5. Most singers are happy with a two octave range, and Lambert routinely exceeds that in performance. But range is nothing without tone or timbre. Lambert has a pure, crystal, ringing tone to his voice throughout his range. His voice abounds with harmonics that enhance the richness of the tone. (Some even think we unconsciously respond to these harmonics resonating in our own bodies. His voice ‘feels’ good.) At will, he can darken or lighten the tone, warm it with vibrato or pierce it with a straight sound. He can seamlessly blend his tone up and down his entire range so that one cannot detect where he shifts from chest, to mixed, to head register. He can make his voice sound light and lilting, floating on the notes, or powerful and dramatic using both his head and chest register way into his upper range. People say that he belts or screams, but that is inaccurate. There is no strain, no push, no sound of effort when he wails a high note. The power comes from his use of the natural full resonance of his body and his excellent breath support in a most relaxed manner. Another notable thing about Lambert is his ability to sing multiple styles or genres convincingly. Coming from a musical theater background, he can sing in the “legitimate” style of a Broadway star. Because of his years of serious vocal training, he can sing in a convincing operatic style as well. Few classically trained singers can shift their style to sound convincing doing pop, blues or hard rock, but Lambert assails each of these styles like a natural. Gone are the formal tones of opera, and present is the slightly gruff, raw grit of a rock singer. And he can do jazz riffs with the best of them. Underlying this ability is the physiology he was born with --- the physiology of a great singer. Just like a beautifully crafted cello has a rich, full-bodied, resonance, so does his body. But, it is his years of training, practice and study that allow him to make the most of his instrument. To know how to shape it, how to support it, how to bend notes, elongate phrases, articulate words, add crescendos and diminuendos, and craft the song into one that touches us emotionally. That’s what is so remarkable about Adam Lambert’s voice. As to his ability as a performer and entertainer, we’ll save that for another day.

What is your biggest fear? Adam: For a while there, it was that I would… I would get to the end of my life as an older man and I’d be alone. That was very scary to me. I would just like to say a big "Thank you" to Sauli. It sounds serious, doesn't it? YES IT DOES!!!!! OMG when I first heard him talk about his fear of being alone I was so sad! Best gif EVAH!!!
