They just focus on his gayness - will it ever go away and focus on his music? Can you imagine though how it would feel to be a young person, struggling to deal with their sexuality, to have someone like Adam talk so openly about it. Seeing that he went through the same thing and how he overcame the insecurities and became a great success without hiding his sexuality? Adam is trying to give young people like him what he never had, a gay role model. Also, I am sure this is just a small part of the special but I think it is important and it looks like they deal with it very well in the episode.

I understand the significance of being a role model. It was the article itself. The majority of it focused on his gayness and not his music and other struggles. Guess I thought news articles would go beyond. guess I'm asking too much. It just touches a nerve with me.

Smokey.... I know what you mean, but obviously Adam approved the show, and I heard that he is happy with it. Maybe it won't be all about the gay. On the other hand, loved all the photos of him, quite a few I have never seen, and he was a cute boy and handsome young man. I hope the show does cover a lot more about his music. I haven't ever watched one of these, maybe the focus is usually about an artist's personal struggles?

I know we who have followed Adam are tired of the gay focus, but really this is a big part of his story. He is ground breaking for being the first openly gay mainstream pop singer out at the beginning of his career. That is news worthy. If it wasn't for his unwillingness to lie and stay in the closet, chances are he wouldn't have needed American Idol. Hopefully his story helps others be more accepting. Because he is the first, being gay will always be a part of his story. Unfortunately, people aren't going to watch a special that is only about someone's great singing voice.

I does look like we'll get quite a few new pics and things though. Same subject but with home movies. Yay! Adam's struggle to find you he is as a person as well as a musician will always be part of him and it feels like he's internalized this as his political statement. Again saying, he didn't know anyone who was gay and they didn't talk about it at school. Say his name these days in elementary schools and the gay label is defintely attached to him like a brand too. But you know how he handles that, by telling the kids I'm willing to be open so that you know somebody just like you. And I think Adam compartmentalizes these things. A discussion about his new album should be about the music, of course when he puts out new music like OOL well then there is going to be some verring in that direction. In a biographical piece then for him it was a large part of his self discovery.
