Cassie, I know everyone has moved on but I have a question about Adams chest. If he had not started singing when he was young but had played sports and lifted wieghts, do you think he would have developed a barrel chest and be able to sing as well as he does? Yeah, it's kinda the chicken vs. the egg question, isn't it? I haven't studied enough about singers' anatomy to have the answer. But, I think that skeletal body types are mostly genetic. They can be influenced by disease or hormone imbalance, but I don't think they can be by certain practices or exercises. So, I think that barrel chest is just something Adam was born with, just as the head/sinus/skull resonance is. However, developing the strong muscles to control the breathing is definitely by choice, not chance. That's my best guess. I am totally convinced that Adam is "our Michael Phelps" of singing, performing, entertaining and leading the Rock- star life ( my hat is off to sage Paula)... Everything - from his anatomy to his looks to his personality...He was made for singing! On a another subject - I see mentions of some deleted references... I AM DYING HERE... so, please take pity and PM me

Without finishing the thread, Imma going to step in on the definition of 'barrel chest'. Adam has a very broad chest, and huge lung capacity - his born anatomy. But he does not have what we in the medical field refer to as a 'barrel chest'. Barrel chest is an anomaly if one is born with it; just as a 'sunken chest' is the same - an abnormality of the sternum. However, most 'barrel chests' are a result of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema - - - the need to breathe, and expand the chest muscles (when, unfortunately, the tissue of the lungs is too damaged to adequately exchange oxygen), over time, results in the 'barrel shape' of the frontal chest. Adam does not have this. He has a broad chest. And, one that is not defined, medically, because he appears 'normal'. I just have to comment, because I take care of folks with 'barrel chests' every day; and, if they had the breath capacity of Adam they would not be in the hospital, yearning for the air that will not come. :( Thanks for learnin' us. I didn't know there was actually a medical condition with a barrel chest. We non-medical people probably just think it means a prominent chest or something.

A little off topic, but got to be proud mom for a minute-
Amazon's "best music of 2011 so far/albums" (Their opinion, not about sales.) has my son's newest album (No Color/The Dodos) as # 38! That's out of 100. Born this Way is # 44.
Tie in to Adam - # 1 is a band Adam likes - Foster the People
peace&love

That, plus do songwriters/producers always flail a lot when they are working with other artists? I don't follow anyone else. It certainly is also self-promotion for their work.
