8.9.2011 Adam News & Info

I got mine a few weeks after I sent an email. I didn't send one at first, but then I decided I really wanted that picture, so I did. I don't really care about autographs, but that picture has associations now for me of all of us joining together to make something really worthwhile happen for others, and so I am really glad I went the extra mile to make sure I had it.

Although I would have donated without that incentive, it was offered, so I don't think there is anything wrong with following through until you get your picture, too, if it is something that you want.

I just finished watching Adam's Behind the Music special for the third time. I wish I could experience the show through the eyes of someone who hasn't followed his career so closely. I'm so curious to know how the episode would affect me if the info were all new to me, so the tweets from new and non-diehard fans are great to read. Whenever people around me see one of his interviews or hear one sound bite and have a positive reaction, I always want to say, "oh, but you should see this and this" and "hey, look at this" 'cause I want them to have the "complete" picture and be even more wowed. I think, how can they truly appreciate Adam until they've seen this, that, or the other--all the best moments. And then I have to remind myself that it didn't take all of that for me to fall down the rabbit hole--it was just one particular song followed later by one interview--and I just have to trust that it can happen that way for others. Reading aralid's post the other day about her seeking more info about Adam after hearing "Sleepwalker" was a nice reassurance to me that the discovery is continuing to happen every day.



Just repeating Cassie's post because I agree it's really important, even if we've already seen it on TV. I try to click on links to articles from reputable sources, even if the relevant parts are already quoted here, and links to the original video sources from entertainment and news sites, even if there is a YT, so the interest will register. Sometimes I'll even copy the link into a new window or go directly to the site to seek it out so the click won't be coming from a fan board (just in case they monitor that kind of thing).

One thing I did notice, after my second BTM viewing, is that when VH1 edited the episode, they used one of Adam's comments twice, to refer to two different incidents in his life. When he was speaking about his experience in Ten Commandments, we see him saying, "a little bit of a lack of being open-minded on their part," and then they cut away and play his voice saying, "and it was really frustrating." And then when they cover the fallout from the AMAs, he's speaking on camera about the Christina/Madonna/Britney kiss and saying, "what message is this sending to kids--is this sending that being two girls and kissing is okay, but two guys kissing is not okay," and then they cut away and run the same voice-over (same intonation) of him saying, "it was really frustrating." It was just a reminder to me how even friendly media can manipulate and take words out of context, especially if you can't actually see the words coming out of the interviewee's mouth or hear the question they're responding to or hear what they said before or after an extracted comment. (As an aside, and in light of other happenings, I've always wondered why anyone getting interviewed, especially for print or radio, doesn't also audiotape their interview and just let the interviewer know--or have their management inform the interviewer--in a friendly way, "hey, I'm recording, too." I sure would.)

VH1 has been extremely good to Adam and to fans, so their creative editing isn't anything that I would ever question or complain to them about, especially since the clip probably accurately summarizes everything Adam went on to say in both cases (I'd love to know what's on the cutting-room floor!) and isn't a big deal. I hope they'll continue to support him as heavily as they've done so far. I would love to see Adam do VH1 Storytellers at some point. While I'm dreaming, I'd also like an SNL appearance during November sweeps (oh, and a Grammy performance next year). And, if it's not too much to ask, I'd like one of his own songs in a movie soundtrack. And, while I'm putting these thoughts into the universe, I think "Outlaws of Love" would be perfect for Glee. Speaking of OOL, that song was stuck in my head for over a week. But what surprised me is that every day it was a different lyric that was on constant repeat in my brain.
