LambertUK Adam Lambert UK Media Watch: NYS Associated Press Winners Announced - Nippertown! - bit.ly/qyb4Ru (a review of Adam's Palace Theatre concert won) www.nippertown.com/2011/08/18/media-watch-nys-associated-press-winners-announced/The New York State Associated Press Association has announced the winners in its annual state-wide newspaper writing competition, and a number of local writers made the grade: And in the 50,000-125,000 circulation division, The Times Union’s Steve Barnes earned a third place Arts/Entertainment nod for “Lambert’s voice soars,” his review of Adam Lambert’s concert at the Palace Theatre last summer.Read more There was one line in this reviewer's comments that made me chuckle: "After all, who wants a black-nail-polished boy who can sing his face off while wearing a feathered tophat and fringed jacket but whose heart really is as gentle as Pat Boone's?" I have often thought that "outrageous" performer Adam Lambert is really "a sweet, dear mama's boy" with a very traditional 70's upbringing. This has been the only reviewer I ever read that caught that fact. His Pat Boone comment made me grin because in my heart Adam is really just a sweet, gentle mama's boy. I know he is sexy and hot as hell, and that is why I am a fan. But really can't you all see that sweet, gentleness that lays underneath that hot exterior? Agree totally his face gives it away, always smiling and the things he does for his family and friends. I do think Neil is also very sweet behind his tweeter persona.

I agree cassie. And his comedic timing is flawless. Yes!! One of my favorite skits was the Mistletoe skit on Jay Leno. His timing was perfect there, too. Have said it before - at some point in his career, if he wishes, he has what it takes to do a show like Carol Burnett's - sing, dance, comedy, drama - everything! And, of course, the charisma and sex appeal ! There I go - preaching to the choir...

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment about a TV show. Where are the network executives that discover talent? Something has happened in that department at the networks; otherwise, Adam would have been grabbed last year. He would be wonderful with his own comedy/variety show. Also, movie people, where the hell are they?

Happy Birthday to taumbu & cupofadam!!! Adam has a pretty good sense of comedic timing in the DS presentation! He did a great job, and I love seeing him on TV! Interesting reading the Steve Barnes review again. I remember thinking long and hard about it when it came out. The reviewer loved Adam's all out performance, but didn't like his "safe" banter between sets and felt that Adam was too nice at heart to be the next Freddie Mercury, and that the nice guy banter, indicating that Adam was just playing at being a rockstar, would hold him back from actually being one. That guy saw one concert, noticed the discrepancy between performing Adam and banter Adam and put out an interesting theory. But I don't think he had it right. For one thing, Adam is not trying to be the next Freddie Mercury; he is trying to be Adam Lambert, and while he will always be figuring out what that means to him as a performer, that is what will make him have authenticity in the end. This reviewer saw Adam at the beginning of his headlining journey, thought the nice banter was significantly weaker than the wild performance that he loved, and tried to make the pieces fit critically for his review, but, after following Adam for all this time, I disagree with the place where the review ultimately goes. Adam is nice and Adam is wild; that is who he is; ultimately, it is a combination that is every bit as intriguing to his fans as Freddie Mercury's persona was to his. I love all the sides of Adam, especially when they slip into and over each other, surprising and mercurial in nature, one moment intensely fierce, the next radiantly joyful. It is at the base of what keeps me here after all of this time, waiting to see what comes next. I believe Adam will be more spontaneous with his banter as he feels more safe and comfortable headlining tours, and that when he does, the discrepancy between his performance and banter will not be so jarring for reviewers like this one. But, hey, Steve Barnes, naughty and nice is fun; it's sexy, and can be every bit as "rockstar" as anything else.

He really does have natural comedic talent, though. Adam's timing with the facial expression pause was purely impromptu here: ryan seacrest " my tongue is not nearly as talented as yours" adam lambertpepper2277

Also, movie people, where the hell are they? That would be AWESOME!! How fun and challenging for him to have a team of comedy writers and improv artists that can create different characters and skits. We tend to mock those type of shows now because they're so dated, but in their heyday, that was a tremendous amount of excellent comedy, performance and production. I think it would be very cool to bring it back if done well.

I think Adam will be a rock star for awhile, but I think he is one of those people who likes change. In a couple years he will grow, change and say "been there, done that" just like he did after working in "Wicked" for three years. That is one of the reasons I want to stay alive to watch his career. We haven't seen the best of Adam yet. He is going to be so exciting and amazing over the next 20 years, always growing and changing which is what he does best. I watch his videos from two years ago and bearly recognize the man he is now. I have a feeling this will continue until his old age.

His expressions are priceless... His expressions thru this entire bit are wonderful! He comes out fierce and proud, as a fashion icon. Posture erect, confident smile. Then, when the gal says black is out, he just sort of deflates. He says he is not that good of an actor, but the clip contradicts that. He may feel he is not convincing with lines, but, physically, he has it down. Clear and effective without being overdone. It reminded me that his high schoolmmented that Adam was very good at comedy. I hope someone sees this bit, and recognizes what a gem they have here, and gets him a TV or movie role ASAP. I agree and short story, my hubby who is an actor and teaches acting, watched Adam's presentation with me and commented, "Wow, he's a natural, very impressive." Believe me, coming from him that's a huge compliment. I would also like to see Adam branch out some day to acting roles but right now I just want him to make incredible music and be the iconic pop star he is destined to be. There's plenty of time for the other stuff. Besides if he became too caught up in the acting world, I'd miss hearing that incredible voice. Justin Timberlake anyone?

And HAPPY BIRTHDAY taumbu & cupofadamThe fact of the matter is, if Adam started acting like an ass to get that "rock star cred," he WOULD be playing at being a rock star. As Adam does it now (and this part gets lost on people who are used to the same ol' same ol') that when Adam does something outrageous and then smiles and rolls his eyes at himself, he is tearing down the fourth wall and saying, "Yes, I am playing a character and we're all in on the joke." This duality is what I think all of us agree is part of why he is so compelling on stage and fascinating in real life. The bitch is FIERCE and he's sweet as can be. THAT'S who he is. If he was to cop the Rawk Gawd attitude, it would be inauthentic. And not nearly as fun. And I stand by my long-held contention that ALL rock stars are playing at being rock stars. If they were like that in RL, people would want to punch them on a daily basis. I've met many and they're RL personality rarely resembles their onstage persona.
