Since next Friday is the day many memberships expire, I sent an email to GroundControl about when more info would be sent concerning membership renewals. Their reply wasn't very informative but here it is: Thank you for contacting ground(ctrl) support. Please keep you eye on the website for a news post that will be added soon with information regarding the new packages. It will be posted shortly! Thanks for your patience and have a great day. Sincerely, ground(ctrl) Support This whole issue ticks me off....and I've said so on ALF. We're expected to renew without knowing what's included in the packages? I was going to wait until the last possible day of my membership which is next Thursday - but with this damn hurricane coming I suspect we'll lose power and internet. *grumble grumble....I want new pretty stuff if it's being offered - but expecting us to buy something sight unseen is very presumptuous. ??? I agree it's annoying, and I'm waiting also, but let's be real with each other. As long as ALF membership might possibly grant you some perks like VIP concert tix or M&Gs, I think mostly we'll all be renewing, even if the new membership package consists of a peace-sign-embroidered tissue box cozy and (yet another) t-shirt that looks like a unicorn barfed on it. Or maybe that's just me... ???

HSM just posted some great advice for people in the Irene path. Some additions based on living in South Florida 6 hurricane hits too long --- even if you have a generator: * Generators are great but they require fuel. Many people in South Florida were complacent because they had generators but then they ran out of fuel. Put any outdoor furniture, pots, yard decor in your garage or tie it down. Otherwise they will turn into projectiles. If you are in an area that is likely to get high winds, think about buying some big tarps. They are cheap and just having them means that you will not need them. Make sure you have a lot of batteries and a battery operated radio. An mini TV is a good addition, but a radio is essential. Buy back-up power chargers for your cell phone OR a battery powered charger. It is probably too late to buy hand-crank lanterns, but they are perfect to have around. Have a lot of cash. If there power is out, the ATMs will not function and if stores are open without power you will need cash. Gas deliveries have been cut off to much of the cost -- fill up you gas tanks. If the storm is bad, it will take a while before deliveries resume. (We went almost three weeks in South Florida in 2005 without any new deliveries.) Buy ice blocks. Freeze some ice blocks. If you have enough ice, you can keep your refrigerator cold for 3+ days. If you have a chaffing dish of a camping stove, make sure you have safe indoor fuel. The storm will be more bearable if you have some soup or hot chocolate or hot coffee. I have made lasagna in a chaffing dish during a storm because I had a lot of eggs to use up. Buy fresh fruit, temperature hardy vegs like carrots that do not need to be cooked. And like HSM said -- have a manual can opener. Honestly, I had two when I lived in Boca Raton and they were the only two on my street. One circulated for a couple of weeks amongst my neighbors. Finally, stock up on wine and chocolate. They both make it better. I am trying to catch up on the days news, so apologies if this has been mentioned. If anyone in the family is taking medication on a daily basis, (diabetic) meds for extended period of time. Not sure if it is true or not.......buy a lot of Tuna. This time next week you will be laughing at all of us

Really getting a little panicy living on Long Island and Irene coming up the coast. I usually don't worry and just prepare and wait. This one's got me worried though and the media isn't helping. How the hell would we ever get off this island? The LIE can't even handle the everyday traffic. Skeerd :-/ In all seriousness, if there's anything that would kill you to see waterlogged, move it upstairs. Check your flashlights NOW, and scatter them where you can find them in the dark. Make sure you have enough bottled water and nonperishable food to last for a few days...and that you have a manual can opener! If you're low on clean laundry, throw in a few loads in tonight. If you have pets that don't usually wear collars, now's the time to locate some and make sure the phone numbers on the tags are up-to-date. Then stack up a few books that you've been meaning to read forever, and leave out a few bottles of wine for when the rain hits on Saturday. Alternatively, you can see if Amtrak has any specials to Chicago! ;D I love your advice, it's perfect. Hurricane's are nothing to panic about, but you should definitely be prepared for worst case scenario. I've been through a few and when your office bldg closes and you have no electricity or way to get gasoline (electric gas pumps) you will appreciate the books, the extra radio batteries, and munchable food that doesn't have to be cooked. I met neighbors I had never even seen before, learned some interesting facts about them and their lives, and was almost, not entirely, but almost sorry when life went back to normal. Oh, and if you're in a vulnerable area with no means of last minute escape, don't be stupid or macho, LEAVE. So many of life's problems we bring on ourselves and staying in an evacuation area during a hurricane can cause others to risk their lives to save yours. Good luck.

I surely hope that Monday morning this storm is a big miss. But in the meantime may I add -- buy bottled water.

This may seem like a frivolous suggestion, but it could make life sans electricity a bit more pleasant (or, perhaps more accurately, a bit less UNpleasant)...buy battery powered fans. Better yet, buy multiple battery powered fans. They can't replace air conditioning, but anything that can make the post-hurricane heat more bearable is worth it.
Best of luck to all in Irene's path. I totally feel for y'all.

Is he still with this stylist? I thought he moved to a new salon? That clip is from 2009, I believe I did hear he moved on. The hairstylist in me really hates to hear that....she was good enough when doing it for almost free but now...not so much!? That sucks...I have often had to tell students not to rely on customers 'really' being your friend but it sucks to see it happen....sadz...

ainow.org/idol/6103-how-do-idol-finalists-rank-on-twitter.htmlTwitter was launched in July of 2006 and since then has become integrated into the daily lives of many people, and the American Idol finalists are no exception. Whether it be to announce a new concert date or album information or just answer some fan questions, many of America's household names stay connected with their fans on twitter. As we await a new crop of talent this year, I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the past ten seasons of American Idol and see how the finalists rank in terms of followers. Let the countdown to number one begin: #1: Adam Lambert @adamlambert 1,173,489 followers *IMPORTANT HURRICANE TIP - if no one has mentioned this one - fill your bathtubs with water - this can be used to flush your toilets if your water system goes out. Invaluable.

It had a "renew now" link which kept crashing my browser, but it led to the Glam Membership Package page in the Store/Fan Club section of ALF. There was nothing new to be seen.

Oh, and don't go rollerblading on a pier when the storm hits.
