In the “Aftermath” of Adam’s recent Twitter Party, once Tweet from the Adam-Eber Haiku Twitter conversation passed by without comment from me. But I really could not forget about it….
adamlambert Adam Lambert @milestougeaux I've been thinking about it. Lol. You inspired this whole writing thing ya know...
8.26.11 from Twitter
In the Twitter Party, Adam has described his new album as “personal, modern, next” and said “the album deals with the highs and the lows and the ins and the outs of my real life”. He continues to say that the album will be real and personal – “The album will let you all in further than ever. Real shit. Real life. Not all the glossy facade... But part of my life is crazy, insane fun. Part of it can get dark. There are songs about both.”
The juxtaposition of the Twitter Party about his music and the Haiku Twitter exchange with Eber (see the 8.27.11 News Thread page 1 for complete transcript of both.) made me realize that Eber really may have done the world a great favor by inspiring Adam to be honest, brave and write about his real life.
So I just wanted to thank Eber. No big important message – just a simple word of thanks. Thank you Glamdad!

Playing What If…

With Labor Day coming up in the U.S., I wondered—what if the universe had aligned in a different way and Adam had enrolled in that business school that sent him a recent flyer? What if he had ended up as a desk jockey in a cubicle? How might Adam do in the 9-5 world, punching clocks instead of ceilings?
Boss: Okay, Adam. You've been with us for a few months now. Let's review your performance, shall we? How do you think you've done?
Adam: Everyone is really fun! It's like a big happy family here! Have you seen Mindy's quarterly reports? So gorgeous and next level! And Joe's PowerPoint about Advanced Spreadsheet Dynamics was living!!!!
Boss: Err, yes, all of your co-workers think you're just the cat's pajamas. And you're one of the most hard-working people we have. On the other hand, there are some things that concern me.
Adam: Oh? I want to do really well, so let me know how I can improve. If this is about the dress code, I totally get now that spandex pants are not okay even on Casual Friday.
Boss: ….
Adam: Are you okay?
Boss: Oh, sorry, I lost my train of thought. Where was I? Oh, job performance. Well, one thing—while we really appreciate your, uhh… help with the website, none of the links seem to work anymore. And now when someone clicks on Directions, there's just a picture of a ham sandwich.
Adam: Oh, that's cool, right?! I figured if people really wanna find us, they should be able to do so by triangulating our location from an item of food in the cafeteria.
Boss: Umm, I've also heard that when people call for information about us, you tell them how awesome our competitors are.
Adam: But, I really like Ace Ventures. Have you seen their latest commercial? Siiiicckkkk! Also, pimping other companies is good karma.
Boss: Okay, let's talk about the Jenkins project. How's that coming along?
Adam: I can't tell you anything about it.
Boss: What? This project is huge and everyone is expecting it asap. Will it be ready on time?
Adam: Prooooobably… I'd say late fall. April or so. Anyway, I'm working on the cover now. I'm thinking something in neon, kinda retro, with a little sparkle. I'm tweaking fonts now!!!!
Boss: But what's wrong with a plain manila report cover?
Adam: ….
Boss: Adam, have you ever considered that this job might not be a good fit for you?
Adam: Hmm, that reminds me that this past weekend I was having a mushroom omelet, and I had a vision. My boyfriend tells me I sound great when I sing in the shower, so I'm gonna try out for American Idol! Wish me luck!

Okay, so I guess all roads lead do lead to Adam singing, after all… Lucky us!

Pop Music – what does it actually mean?
Calling all music experts!!!!
8.28.11 by Q3
Adam is working on his second Pop album. So what does that really mean? We know some of his collaborators, others are a mystery – but it appears that Adam will once again cross genres with his album. And he has promised to surprise us.
Today, as we approach the release of his new single (probably 7 weeks and 4 days to go – more or less), I thought it would be fun to try to figure out what genre it will be.
Pop Music
Pop (Popular) music means many things but it is most often a general term for any type of music that is or has been a top seller. Pop songs can come from almost any other genre of music –
The FreeDictionary.com says -- Noun1. pop music - music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love.
And in another entry they have broken down a long list of genres that are represented in the “popular music genre - any genre of music having wide appeal”:
disco, disco music - popular dance music (especially in the late 1970s); melodic with a regular bass beat; intended mainly for dancing at discotheques
macumba - popular dance music of Brazil; derived from the practices of the macumba religious cult
pop music, pop - music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love
ethnic music, folk music, folk - the traditional and typically anonymous music that is an expression of the life of people in a community
ballroom music, dance music, danceroom music - a genre of popular music composed for ballroom dancing
jazz - a genre of popular music that originated in New Orleans around 1900 and developed through increasingly complex styles
rap music, hip-hop, rap - genre of African-American music of the 1980s and 1990s in which rhyming lyrics are chanted to a musical accompaniment; several forms of rap have emerged
R and B, rhythm and blues - a combination of blues and jazz that was developed in the United States by Black musicians; an important precursor of rock 'n' roll
rockabilly - a fusion of black music and country music that was popular in the 1950s; sometimes described as blues with a country beat
rock 'n' roll, rock and roll, rock music, rock'n'roll, rock-and-roll, rock - a genre of popular music originating in the 1950s; a blend of black rhythm-and-blues with white country-and-western; "rock is a generic term for the range of styles that evolved out of rock'n'roll."
reggae - popular music originating in the West Indies; repetitive bass riffs and regular chords played on the off beat by a guitar
skiffle - a style of popular music in the 1950s; based on American folk music and played on guitars and improvised percussion instruments
I think I need a better source!
The august online reference – Wikipedia – says “Pop music (a term that originally derives from an abbreviation of "popular") is usually understood to be commercially recorded music, often oriented towards a youth market, usually consisting of relatively short, simple songs utilizing technological innovations to produce new variations on existing themes. Pop music has absorbed influences from most other forms of popular music, but as a genre is particularly associated with the rock and roll and later rock style.”
Some parts of that definition makes sense – but the last part “is particularly associated with the rock and roll and later rock style.” is a bit out of date.
I know, I check some music industry experts!
So it is up to you. What is Pop Music?
And, more importantly, what do you expect for Adam’s next single? A dance-club track? A pop-rock tune? Perhaps a neo-reggae song? I’ll be happy with anything – well anything except modern country pop.
