Is anyone else getting massive flickering when viewing ATop? It's weird because other sites in other tabs of the same browser are perfectly fine.... I generally notice flickering when someone is modifying a post. If you're ever looking at a post I'm working on, you'll def go WTF. That actually would not cause any flickering. The database does not update until you submit you changes and would not update for a viewer until someone refreshes their screen. The flickering may be because the page has not fully loaded and someone has posted a very large post in the thread. Posting a string of photos, lots of embedded videos, and or ani GIFs in a thread may cause this. If you have a slower internet connection, just wait a moment before you scroll down so that the entire page loads. Members can help by not posting huge posts in the news thread. If you want to create a photo masterpiece -- or a full concert recap -- the best thing to do is do it in the appropriate topic thread and post a link in the news. Also, most people love the birthday greetings but please keep them no wider than 900 pixels to avoid a horizontal scroll and, if you create an animation, do not get too elaborate. THANKS!!

Q3, thanks for the explanation of US radio formats. Never could figure it out so your post is extremely helpful.

Taking a break from de-flooding my basement. I haven't lost power so I'm still able to use the pump and the shop vac. The wind seems to be picking up again so my fingers are crossed about the power situation. Hope there's no damages/minor inconveniences to your home from Irene jesslala. Sometimes I stand in awe on how big these hurricanes are.

just musing- Anyone wonder why the OoL lyrics are "rot in hell" and not "burn in hell" which would make much more sense to me?

An observation: Adam has said he has an "out of body" experience sometimes. The artistic person tends to "mind float" and are not as tied to this planet as are the organized business "down to earth" types. This of course is why they are so creative. They are not as bound by the "rules" as others. I had a girlfriend who said she has to work to stay focussed on earthly issues. She would just float off. So time does not necessarily exist for many as the clock and calendars record. Physics states that in other dimensions, time does not exist. Time and space is a contruct of the 3rd dimension. I just want to fly with him where ever he goes!

I just learned that 15 people have died because of Hurricane Irene/TS Irene -- but the total damage is so light it is a real relief. Surely not a comfort to people who were hit by this storm but in the perspective of what it could have been -- NY and the Northeast really dodged a bullet. I cannot comprehend what would happen if Manhattan got hit with sustained winds of 100 MPH. Q3, thanks for the explanation of US radio formats. Never could figure it out so your post is extremely helpful. Actually, no one can really figure out US Radio. And it is once again transitioning as music evolves again. For example, classic rock stations are now playing music from the 1990's -- which was once considered toxic to this audience. Nothing is static, but it keeps it interesting.

just musing- Anyone wonder why the OoL lyrics are "rot in hell" and not "burn in hell" which would make much more sense to me? I have two thoughts: 1. The tone on the word is better -- This may be a question for Cassie -- but I think "rot" is a better word to sing. It has a round, open-mouth note. "Burn" does not have this note. 2. Because changing the word makes it noticeable and distinctive vs. a cliche.

I wondered about this also, and a group of us ATopers discussed this at a recent get-together. I do think that "burn" makes more sense both logically and also sound-wise. "Rot" is more jarring to the ear. My guess is that Adam went for the more shocking of the two words. "Burn in hell" is more familiar and therefore becomes one of the phrases your mind skims over without any thought. "Rot," on the other hand, is such an ugly word, and coupled with "hell" becomes a really ugly image. Which makes you think about just exactly how hateful people are who say such things. I think he made the right choice.
