LOL, I thought of that also. I don't know enough about him to know if he was in constant pursuit of perfection? Or just seriously obsessed with lilies? And I don't mean to dis singers in musical theater or opera. It takes a true artist to take a 2-dimensional role and breathe life and soul into it onstage and reach the emotions of the audience. I guess I can more easily imagine Adam creating a musical theater production of his own rather than singing in someone else's. Mostly, Monet was obsessed with painting light - he was always trying to capture the same scene with different lighting and to somehow bring the ~feel of the light into the painting. Many of the "series" paintings were actually done at the same time. He would work on whichever one was correct for the current conditions (sunrise, midday, sunset, cloudy, etc.) With the lillies he was able to include the fun of painting the light reflecting off the water. The London series had different weather conditions (such as fog and rain) interacting with the light. Yes. Monet wasn't obsessed with the specific subject of his paintings, like haystacks or waterlilies; he was experimenting with the perception of light under different weather conditions (sun, rain), times of day and seasons. Here is an article that explains a bit more about what he was trying to achieve in the depiction of light (it refers specifically to the Haystack paintings): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haystacks_(Monet)

@thefilmqueen has done and INCREDIBLE slideshow of one of the Hawaii shows. Every single shot is beautiful and it's almost like a frame-by-frame narrative of GNT. Click on link and then View As Slideshow. Gorgeous photography and photo editing: s986.photobucket.com/albums/ae342/Amaryllispics/Adam%20Lambert/Glamnation%20Tour%202010/Honolulu%20HI%20October%2026%202010/?albumview=slideshowTurns out she isolated these from her vids; they are crystal clear and the result is very powerful – like seeing his entire process in slow mo. Every frame she chose is a still unto itself. During certain speech parts, she captions the frame with what he's saying. I got a little misty when I realized during his pre-IIHY speech, "It doesn't mean shit, unless your connected with love" that he had no idea he would meet The One just 10 days later. OMG!!! Thank you, SusieFierce for posting this!!!
If any of you want a trip down GN lane, @thefilmqueen has created a remarkable montage in this slideshow. As said, the images are mind-blowing, the clarity unlike anything I have seen. This should be archived somewhere (with the artist's permission, of course) as it is the best compilation of images...Ever..and the captions..you are right back in the audience cheering Adam and company on! Superb. I relived every emotion I experienced during GN. STOP whatever you are doing and watch this one for sure!!![/b] I choked up during Sleepwalker, myself. Very moving and we'll never seen GN again. Can you tell I loved it???

Just skimmed and chiming in on the convo about Adam's future musical direction. Full disclosure first-- I DO like enough modern pop music to say I like it as a general rule. I wouldn't call myself a huge fan of musical theatre or light opera, or opera, but I definitely like and appreciate some works in those genres. I guess what I genuinely don't get is how Adam would be more creatively fulfilled doing opera or musical theater? Aside from the fact that he's said that he felt stifled by the limitations of theater, how would that give him more rooom for creative expression? Singing the same songs night after night, week after week, etc., and basically needing to stay on-script and on-note every time. Where would he have the freedom to play with riffs, melody, phrasing, lyrics (lol) as he does with his own music, or even covers? I'm not a musician, so I don't totally get it, but I imagine it's like telling a painter he can paint only one scene the same way over and over again. Sure, he could maybe paint it a bit ~better every time, but what if he wanted to paint in a totally different style, or wanted to paint something else altogether? For me (JMHO YMMV etc) theater is about expressing the vision of the writer of the play/musical/opera. In my opinion Adam wants to create his own vision and then execute that vision using his voice, body, brain. hmmm...well I know i never said or meant or referred to 'creative fulfillment' at all so not sure where you thought that is what I meant. As far as Adam and musical theatre is concerned....he was more frustrated with never getting a lead role more than the genre itself, as far as I can tell....there is far more 'room' for putting you own stamp on a performance when you are a lead. We know Adam likes a structure to play in because he immediately built his own structure from which he deviated no more than he would have in a theatrical production...and he did it for over 100 shows. I am not in any way suggesting he wants to go back to musical theatre...he has clearly said that at the moment, what he wants to do is exactly what he is doing. But he has just as clearly NOT closed the door to the notion of returning to the theatre at some time in the future if the right vehicle and timing turned up. I have no vested interest in him doing theatre....or opera...or back gammon. Whatever makes him happy and fulfilled....as long as I get to watch and listen!!! And yes...I would love to see him on the big screen but if it is musical, then I would prefer to see a proper theatrical production than the kind of thing Elvis spat out....that was a travesty of talent. I am secretly so sorry they made Sweeney Todd already...with Johnny Depp...who really cannot sing. Adam would have killed that role...sigh...but that is my dream, not Adam's so I will just keep it there...as a dream....I would also love to see him as The Engineer from Miss Saigon....singing 'the American Dream.....sigh youtu.be/sEERCmodWq8?hd=1

In my opinion Adam wants to create his own vision and then execute that vision using his voice, body, brain. I get what you are saying. I know that Adam wants that artistic freedom. But, the GNT was basically set much like a musical theater production. Choreographed, established set of music, backing tracks so he couldn't improvise or veer from the preset tempo, specific themes or characters. You can have a set show and stll have room for individual expression. However, I was thinking specifically about vocal challenges. I don't believe we have begun to hear what Adam can do vocally. And much of pop music isn't that difficult, vocally. Isn't that complex vocally. As we were talking about earlier, as a general rule (and yes, there are exceptions, so don't jump on me), it doesn't take a great voice or great technique to sing pop. The phrases are short and choppy for the most part, the melodies are simple, the range is limited (Katy Perry's songs, for example, tend to hit the same five or so notes thruout the song, occasionally expanding to about an octave (8 notes) range, but rarely more than that. Gary Jules' version of Mad World -- as much as I love the song--- has only 6 notes in the whole song). They are designed so that people can easily sing along. Adam can do so much more with his voice. Think of anything that you do well. For example, if you are a skilled skier, sticking to the Bunny Slopes gets really boring after a while. I don't envision Adam doing a two year run on Broadway with 8 shows a week. He would get bored with that, too. But, I can see him taking on more vocally challenging repertoire in one-offs, guest appearances and short runs. Just my opinion. YMMV

I am convinced that even Adam is still exploring what he can do vocally -- and his focus on vocals in the upcoming album is clear. Sometimes I think that he did not realize how important his vocal expression was to fans until with Glam Nation Tour, and to critics until he released the AL EP. That said -- I have a slightly different opinion on pop music. The simplicity and repetition in pop songs is almost required because a great pop song can be sung by almost anyone -- a song you can sing along to when you are driving in your car. In the hey day of Tin Pan Alley, a great popular song had to be able to be played on a piano by an amateur and accompanied by people in her living room.

In the hey day of Tin Pan Alley, a great popular song had to be able to be played on a piano by an amateur and accompanied by people in her living room. Interesting point. I sometimes wonder if Adam does not truly understand how outstanding and rare his vocals are. He praises singers he could sing circles around. Certainly he has to hear the difference, don't you think? But, maybe, altho he has received much praise for his voice since he was a teenager, he didn't see the value of such an instrument because he was unable to market it. Perhaps the feedback from so many about how they crave hearing his voice pure and clear finally convinced him to highlight his voice. I also agree that pop music is designed to be easy to sing. It's designed for the audience to be able to easily sing along, even when dancing and boogie-ing. And perhaps that is why many of the pop stars do not have that exceptional a voice.... it would not fit with the "everyman" appeal of pop music. Maybe that is why the producers, tho blown away by Adam's vocal ability, tended to cover it up on his first album. Who knows. But, I am glad that Adam has listened to what folks have been saying about proudly using that vocal gift he has (that he worked so hard to perfect).

reihmer, seriously...I don't know how you found some of these, particularly the older photos of Adam, I really appreciate you taking the time to share! The one of Adam and Cheeks in the car, is that from pre-idol or during AI? Just curious. Seems so long ago since we have seen Adam with his hair down. I know, two years is not that long, sure goes by in a blink of an eye. Why does waiting for album #2 seem to seem like a decade?????
