I am amazed how rarely anyone gives credit to vocalists for how hard they have to work. I guess it is because there is no physical instrument involved. But if critics and music experts did a better job at reporting about vocal skill and training, I think that fans would get it.
I used to get so annoyed about the AI8 Idol fanwar discussions that Kris was a musician because he play instruments, while Adam was not because he just sang -- and anyone can sing.
Well JMHO no one can sign like Adam -- there are other great vocalists, but only one Adam Lambert. And he was not just born that way.

reihmer, seriously...I don't know how you found some of these, particularly the older photos of Adam, I really appreciate you taking the time to share! The one of Adam and Cheeks in the car, is that from pre-idol or during AI? Just curious. Seems so long ago since we have seen Adam with his hair down. I know, two years is not that long, sure goes by in a blink of an eye. Why does waiting for album #2 seem to seem like a decade????? I remember the discussions around that pic...I think it is actually a screencap from a vid paps caught of Adam exiting somewhere...seems to me that we did not see cheeks get in the car...just Adam climb in and hunch down, clearly inebriated and knowing that he ..or cheeks at least...did not want to be 'caught' in the camera's eye. It was somewhere in that time frame between the end of the idol tour and the dropping of FYE. He was doing a lot of appearances around that time and I think it is the same day he did that livestream tweet answer party . |

hmmm...well I know i never said or meant or referred to 'creative fulfillment' at all so not sure where you thought that is what I meant. As far as Adam and musical theatre is concerned....he was more frustrated with never getting a lead role more than the genre itself, as far as I can tell....there is far more 'room' for putting you own stamp on a performance when you are a lead. We know Adam likes a structure to play in because he immediately built his own structure from which he deviated no more than he would have in a theatrical production...and he did it for over 100 shows. Oops, I didn't mean to imply that my post was in response to anyone's in particular, just the general topic. And yes, Adam did design GNT in a theatrical way, but he deviated more than someone could do in a real musical-- he took away and added songs, improvised his dancing in the non-choreographed parts, sang different encore songs, etc. I think the key difference is that the whole show was Adam's brainchild-- he designed it AND starred in it himself, which is very different than performing in someone else's production, even if you are the lead. Adam can do so much more with his voice. Think of anything that you do well. For example, if you are a skilled skier, sticking to the Bunny Slopes gets really boring after a while. I don't envision Adam doing a two year run on Broadway with 8 shows a week. He would get bored with that, too. But, I can see him taking on more vocally challenging repertoire in one-offs, guest appearances and short runs. Just my opinion. YMMV I agree, and I can imagine Adam being interested in the right project in theater as one aspect of his career. For sure, I don't think Adam either knows nor has fully explored the limits of his voice. Thing is, I'm not convinced that this is what he wants to do. I've never heard him say anything where he sees his voice as an instrument that he wants to explore and refine and develop. I get more a sense that yes, he understands he has a great voice, but he's more interested in being a "rock stah" and an entertainer. At least for now; who knows what will appeal to him in the future. When he talks about a focus on the vocals, I take this to mean that he wants his lovely voice to not be hidden by too much production, not that he wants to sing to the outer limits of his abilities. |

I feel like it is not so far from when he and cheeks also attended the glaad event...when Adam performed. We were all wondering if he and cheeks were rekindling something or just 'friends'. It was after the Drake break-up, for sure.... Anybody else remember? |
