Craazyforadam, that's a good question-- why did Adam choose pop? I think it is telling that even when Adam was very much into a theater career and trying to make it in that world, he never chose to move to NYC. I mean-- isn't that the mecca for anyone who wants to make it in musical theater? Yet he chose to remain based in LA even while touring with theater productions. Someone should really ask him this, because otherwise I will think that subconsciously he had a different goal. I keep going back to what Adam has said a million times- he wants to entertain. And for most entertainers, the bigger the audience the better. A successful pop star has a very large audience to entertain. The math kind of works in my head. Plus I do think he genuinely likes pop. He likes the fun silliness of it and the opportunity to play and create and dress up and reinvent oneself. And I think Adam loves pop singers with great voices, like Xtina, so he definitely sees a place for himself in that world. ITA. I think it was rather academic. He went for the arena with the largest audience and the greatest potential for visual and musical improvisation and international appeal. I think with "The Citizen Vein," he was feeling his oats and exploring the different genres to figure out what fit best. And he was sexy as hell in that incarnation, but I wonder if that was a "natural fit" for him. I think he was already exploring a more poppy side with "Pop Goes the Camera," etc. And sure, just because a lot of pop music doesn't place a premium on vocals, great lyrics, etc., doesn't mean they don't exist. As MsZue pointed out earlier in the thread, there are many incredible voices in pop music and there are a few she missed even (Pink comes to mind ...) And though Eminem is rap, he does have some complex, challenging lyrics. We think he's locked into certain confines with pop, but he'd be locked into similar (if not more stringent) confines if he went rock, theater or opera. In some ways, pop is what you make it. It seems to be the most elastic of the genres at this point. Just because "most things are one way" doesn't mean "all things are one way." That's where I think he will understand the market and push it ever so much in the direction he wants to go in. I THINK it will be enough to be challenging, but not so much that he won't be commercially viable.

Nica: 'say 15 years of making millions and then he can afford a little "detour" into opera' Yes, but the tenor roles are usually the young suitor lead roles. When he is 45 years old he will not get those that easily anymore, especially as a newcomer to opera. The father figures or people of influence in opera who would fit for his age bracket then, are often set in the baritone or bass range. To get the best opera roles for his voice he would have to be in opera NOW. And that is besides the obvious fact that Adam has never shown any interest to go into opera. Musical theater was as far as he has branched out into the world of classics. Maybe I am not knowledgeable enough, but I am searching right now what roles I could think of for the middle aged tenor...there are a few that come to mind: Radames (Aida) or Max (Der Freischuetz) or some of the Wagner stuff (don't know those operas too well, but they sure are expressive, dramatic, theatrical and vocally challenging - not sure which roles are set for a lyrical tenor - Fliegende Hollender perhaps?) Anyhoo.....I just think that the romantic lead roles are given to young tenors...kind of Adam's age now. All just fantasy - he never said a word about any ambitions in that direction - but its a slow day, so I guess our thoughts are allowed to wander astray. And I should probably stay out of the deep end of opera pool when I don't really know how to swim, shouldn't I. Oh well....I'll await the response from the pros and learn something - that's also worth something. True, most tenor characters are "young", but 45 is not a problem at all. Domingo is 70 and still sings on occasion (he conducts more often now). As far as I remember Mozart's Idomeneo has tenors only, and the title role is the king who has an adult son.... I am sure there are more, just can't think at the moment. But since I am fantasizing - I can't see any reason why someone would not write an opera specially for Adam@45 ;D. and on this pleasant thought I am off to bed (all smiling).

reihmer, seriously...I don't know how you found some of these, particularly the older photos of Adam, I really appreciate you taking the time to share! The one of Adam and Cheeks in the car, is that from pre-idol or during AI? Just curious. Seems so long ago since we have seen Adam with his hair down. I know, two years is not that long, sure goes by in a blink of an eye. Why does waiting for album #2 seem to seem like a decade????? I remember the discussions around that pic...I think it is actually a screencap from a vid paps caught of Adam exiting somewhere...seems to me that we did not see cheeks get in the car...just Adam climb in and hunch down, clearly inebriated and knowing that he ..or cheeks at least...did not want to be 'caught' in the camera's eye. It was somewhere in that time frame between the end of the idol tour and the dropping of FYE. He was doing a lot of appearances around that time and I think it is the same day he did that livestream tweet answer party . The Brad/Adam photo in the car was taken February 18, 2010 coming out of Avalom/Bardpt (now Mr. Blacks). The photo was not from a video, but Paparazzi photos. It was the same day as the Donor's Choose video chat (won by ONTD_AI). He also delivered the instruments to the school for Donor's Choose that day. It was the first Bradam photo post idol. Here is a link to the other pap photos from the night.
