Thinking about Adam ,cds and the stage.. If Recording artists don't really make enough to sustain them without concert tours and merchandising. Then I think I might get what Adam is doing and how he's doing it.. He has great stage presence,a beautiful voice, &charisma to burn.. So get known through the record industry, & do Broadway like world tours,i.e. Lady Gaga,Pink .So the records like said before, are his PR and the concert is where he is his own boss, rather than a player on Broadway, and he can be creative, free and successful in all ways. just sayin...Sounds like a PLAN

You should listen to the other clips too. They're really good. And yes he looks amazing. Thanks Gelly! These are great. Adam is so thoughtful and interesting here, I could have another hour of this. And S*&@^#r, yeah, Flick did turn out to be an a$$hat. Good way of putting it.

mszue - A while back, I had wondered about the differences between autotune and voice synthesizers and I did a little research so that I could tell the difference when listening to music. I hope that kanadie or cassie can come on later and give you a more professional explanation because mine may be a little confused; I think that only a professional with deep understanding of the subject can give a comprehensible simple explanation and that sure isn't me. There are three main voice effects used; talkbox, vocoder, and autotune. A talkbox is this weird looking device using a tube attached to a musical instrument; guitar, keyboard, etc. In this case, the sound is made by the instrument and the voice then modifies that sound. What we commonly hear in pop music is a vocoder or autotune which is a very specific type of vocoder developed by Antares. A vocoder used in music (as opposed to one used to recreate sound without input of a voice, think GPS instructions) takes the melody sung/rapped/spoken by a vocalist, digitizes it and then allows it to be modified with a synthesizer of some type to create unusual sound effects. So in general the artist is not trying to correct tone or pitch but trying to create an unusual sound perhaps robotic. When I hear this, I try to appreciate the musical statement they are trying to make not the specifically the voice used to make it. Listen to this example from Mr. Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra at 2:25 to 2:40. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjPqsDU0j2I Autotune on the other hand was developed specifically to correct pitch. My favorite explanation is "Auto-Tune sets up a musical scale for the signal-- a series of related pitches (frequency nodes)-- that the signal coming through is then pushed/pulled/snapped to very tightly." (from Yahoo answers) If you listen to an auto-tuned voice, you can actually hear the pulling as a kind of very narrow melisma. One of the funniest things I read was that the vocalist has to at least be close to the pitch or the device can not tell what note they are singing. So only specific notes are programmed and the autotune pulls the singer voice to those notes and for me, that is why there is no great artistry or emotion in autotuned singing. Adam autotuned himself when he corrected the last note on Mad World during the Idol performance and although he probably not intentionally miss the note it provided a certain pathos indicative of artistry. Finally, here is a YT which gives many examples of the three effects: ETA: I see there has been quite a discussion since I started to write this but I think I will leave it in because, well just because...
