To me, it is not Adele that is the anomaly at all....it is Adam. Adam will either start a trend of better and more men in pop...or he will drift back to musical theatre in a few years [up to 5 at most I would think]. Either way, he will be fine and do well....but it is a crap shoot which way pop will go for the men. I suspect most of the good singers are simply not willing to do what they have to do to make it in pop....and to fight the powers that be...when they can have it all except mass-market name recognition...in another genre. , when I mentioned to my DH what you said about Adam possibly having to go back to musical theatre in future because of the situation for male pop singers, his response was that Adam is so freakishly talented that he will probably be able to break through the barriers and make it in the pop world. I hope DH is right because I think that's what Adam wants and it's what I want too! Hi prism...and I hope you/he is right though, I really wasn't meaning it quite that he would have to...more like it is possible, with the right incentive, he may wish to as per [partially] his initial stated reasons for going on idol in the first place. Eventually, pop spits out the older members and they end up touring their old stuff or fading off into other ventures. Theatre, on the other hand, has many uses and places for mature performers....look at Jean Valjean/phantom/the Engineer/Sweeney Todd...there are as many roles for older performers as younger. Many mature pop and rock stars do not have the musical chops to do musical theatre but Adam does....that is more what I was thinking....I definitely should not have put in that "5 years" thing as that is not likely or appropriate...slip of the finger... :-/ |

Since the demographics of Americans seem to be getting older and living longer.. 29 is the new 20 .. so Adam has a lot more time.. and an older audience to appreciate his great talent. I think Adam may be the new great male pop singer, but I believe he will open the door for more male singers with vocal chops. This rap stuff has to wear out someday. IMHO He can do it all and I think he will,including theater,movies. Of course all I'm really sure of is that I miss him and wish he was on TV weekly if not daily.
