I think that when Idols get to album #2 the Idol glow has faded and they need to survive on their own talent and the quality of the music. IMO Adam is the most talented and creative Idol alum -- and he will do more than survive. I really want him to get great reviews and respect as an artist -- I am less interested in sales totals.
I really have no idea how many passionate fans Adam has who are waiting to buy his album. Coming off of Idol and all those weeks of exposure, and a really strong, impressive presale, Adam opened with 200K albums sold (I am counting the sales that were too early for Soundscan.) In this market, it will be really hard to match that number without a massive radio hit -- certainly not impossible but tough. But I am making only one prediction -- I will love Adam #2 and will buy more than one copy. It makes me so happy to see you say that. It's not that I don't want Adam to have massive sales, it's just that I want the album to also be artistically challenging and artistically successful and have it gain more and more respect from the music industry. To me he's not a "pop sensation" but an artist who deserves a long and varied career. I loved in BTM when a young Adam said that if he could do music for his whole life (paraphrasing) he would be a happy man. My # 1 wish is that Adam be a happy man, whatever it takes.

I can't get on much in the evening but I loved reading the replies to Tigerlily's question about whether Adam had changed your listening habits and what you were listening too. Count me as one of those whose habits were changed by Adam. I loved pop and rock music as a kid and followed it for years ... drifted into country in the 80s because I loved the new traditionalists like George Strait, Dwight Yoakum, and Randy Travis. When that faded it was the time of "grunge" and hip-hop. Hated them both. Was into folk and instrumental before Adam came along.
The way that Adam has changed my habits is that he has made me much more open again about all kinds of music. I had actually never downloaded any music before I downloaded FYE in the dark of night after the AMAs! LOL. Now I am much more likely to give an artist a chance and download a song or two, and I have a greater variety of artists on my music player of all genres.
I really like Monte's music and Uh Huh Her and of course that's through Adam. I also like Adele and Kylie Minougue and Goldfrapp, all of whom I found out about through Adam and this fandom.
The main genre I like now that I didn't even know about before Adam is electronic. I find I really enjoy Massive Attack, Enigma, and Evanscence.
I still like a lot of singer-songwriter stuff, and this recent favorite is not Adam's If I Had You. Very different. But you know ... the beautiful sentiment is actually the same.
Neat discussion. I am now always looking for new music and that is the biggest change.

LOL (but ewww), Chunkey, I knew you wouldn't disappoint.
Welp, TGIF and Week 1 of the Eternal 8 Wait is done. Now we drift into the Insufferable Suspenseful Seven ...
Kanadie, thanks for finding those old tweets!! Great to know this is the anniversary of the drop-date announcement. I'm at least hopeful that RCA can't keep it's calendar open indefinitely. It's going to have to fill in the blanks soon. Too many parts of the machine to keep in the world in the dark.

Eek! I just read that article about sophomore slumps and I only recognized about seven of those band names, and some of them just barely. I feel really out of it.

What, we are on page two still? *pokes Atop* So, a question. if you would get Adam to cover any song you'd want, be it as indulgent as anything, what would it be? Forget all about what would be good to his career, or if singing covers would be good to his career. Imagine just for fun. My pick, of course, would be "Take on me", as it has the largest range that I have ever heard used in a pop song. Imagine a soundcheck where the keyboardist would start with the piano rif, and Adam would join in, just for shits and giggles :D

I am deeply torn between this: and this, with Adam and Gaga:

OT but since we were talking about it yesterday, Kelly's new song jumped onto the HAC chart this week with 200 spins and currently sits at #48. It doesn't go officially for adds on Top 40 until 9/13 and on HAC 9/12 so that looks pretty promising IMO.
I hope Adam's single gets the same reception from radio.

I am loving her reception and thinking about Adam as I see her spins climb. Hope he gets the same reception. The song is an earworm for me. The chorus, of "You don't know a thing about me..." just sticks in my head! I think it will do well.
