TALCvids @talcvids 7h7 hours ago .@queenwillrock + @adamlambert mini review & photos from Rotterdam "I regularly brace myself with other live performances by artists for complex solos, tricks or difficult melody lines, but the ease with which the band plays and Adam sings gives peace."
I really love this very astute observation. Adam is ALWAYS in control of his vocals, even the most intricate ones. Brian and Roger have full confidence in his ability to just NAIL it. As the writer above said, sometimes an artist simply can't handle the tricky parts and kind of meander away from the melody or cannot improvise like Adam can. The expectations for Adam are very HIGH and he meets those expectations every time. It's a skill most singers just don't have.

Queen + Adam Lambert build a bridge between generations in Ahoy By Peter van Cappelle on June 28, 2018 0 Comments
After the death of Freddie Mercury, the collaborations of Queen (since 1997, after the departure of bass player John Deacon, only consisting of Brian May and Roger Taylor) with varying degrees of success. George Michael came close to Freddie in the famous tribute concert in 1992, but did not want to become a permanent new replacement. The collaboration in the previous decade with Free and Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers was rather remarkable, because both originate from a different genre. But with Adam Lambert, Queen seems to have a new face with which they can show up well. After they performed twice in this formation at the Ziggo Dome, it was now the Ahoy's turn.
To a large extent, the setlist was the same this evening as in November in the Ziggo Dome. But with a different opening. The robot on the cover of 'News Of The World' opened the evening on the big screen. This evening was opened with an album track from the album 'The Works': 'Tear It Up'. Followed by a song from the early beginnings of Queen: 'Seven Seas Of Rhy', which has not even been a hit in the Netherlands. Bold opening, but nice for the biggest Queen fans that they do not open predictably with a hit. After all, they already followed that. With a number of '70s-classics in a row:' Tie Your Mother Down ',' Play The Game ',' Fat Bottom Girls', 'Killer Queen', 'Do not Stop Me Now', 'Bicycle Race' and the album track of 'A Night At The Opera': 'I'm In Love With My Car', with Roger Taylor taking care of the lead vocals. Unfortunately, the last two mentioned were played in a rattled medley. But what the numbers have proven is that Lambert can easily take care of the vocal parts of Freddie Mercury. Plus that he also has the same flamboyant about him. Like the amount of clothing changes he underwent this evening.
After 'Another One Bites The Dust' Queen songs were alternated with solos. Starting with the only number of Lambert on the setlist: 'Lucy'. Which, although no stranger was baffled, Brian May also participated in the studio version. It fitted nicely with the solid version of 'I Want It All'.
Brian May then played a solo acoustic version of 'Love of my Life', in which the late Freddie Mercury could be seen and heard on the big screen. The first goose bump moment of the evening. After the somewhat senseless moment of self from May (make the cat wise that he will take a look at that again), 'Somebody To Love' and 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' were a good idea. Intimate at the end of that catwalk where the gentlemen May, Taylor and Lambert Ahoy completely to their hand. Then it was time for the mandatory drum solo of Roger Taylor, which luckily was made up again when 'Under Pressure' followed. It was played as a duet between Lambert and Taylor.
For a while the ballad 'You Take My Breath Away' seemed to be used, but it was only used as a prelude to 'Who Wants To Live Forever'. After which May played a solo number on a raise with 'Last Horizon'. Where it was as if the News of the World robot was lifting him. This was followed by an unnecessary guitar solo, but they recaptured when Adam Lambert returned for 'The Show Must Go On', 'Radio Ga Ga' and of course the inevitable 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. To end in the regular bonus Queen has been on their set list for 40 years: the final of 'We Will Rock You' and 'We Are The Champions'.
The solos of May and Taylor took the pace out of the show. But that is not in a show where so many classics pass by. The Queen material fits Adam Lambert much better than Paul Rodgers. Of course you can be skeptical by saying that no one can replace Freddie Mercury. But Lambert himself announced at the concert that he absolutely did not come to Queen. He treats the songs with respect, but at the same time stays with himself. In addition, this combination is also a smart move. Where the Queen members will also reach many older fans, Lambert takes a younger audience with him. This combination probably makes a new generation acquainted with the work of Queen. This combination therefore forms a bridge between two generations.

QUEEN SUBLIEM IN AHOY
Published: Thursday, June 28, 2018 07:56
The current tour of Queen is hung on the 40th anniversary of the album News Of The World that was released in the autumn of 1977. Last year, the legendary band Ziggo Dome turned on and last night was the reprise in the Rotterdam Ahoy.

It was an emotional return for guitarist Brian May and Roger Taylor. In the seventies the band gave a number of memorable concerts with then still singer Freddie Mercury and bassist John Deacon in the ranks. May said last night not for nothing that he had been playing in the great Ahoy for 300 years. Apparently it also brought hidden powers to the surface because not previously played band with singer Adam Lambert with so much conviction.
The show is not essentially different. The opening with the News Of The World robot, Adam's bike at Bicyle Race, May's selfie stick, it all came back last night. But there almost seemed to be another band. Logically also a bit. Queen toured the world over the past few months and this autumn for a few weeks on a luxury stage in a large casino in Las Vegas. Queen dared to adjust the set list a bit and that turned out to be a good move. After the overwhelming opening, the stamping Tear It Up of the album The Works was used. And yes, immediately Lambert blew the roof of the Ahoy with a number of very hard and stinging throws. When immediately very tight versions of the old Seven Seas Of Rhye and Tie Your Mother Down were used, the band was already 10-0 ahead.
Brian May was on track
Surprisingly, the surprise was in the beginning. The rarely live played ballad hit Play The Game was finally once again removed from the stable. Sometimes it seemed too good. Especially when May started the beginning of the long-lost White Man. That was it because it was only the start of the sing-along Fat Bottomed Girls. Why Queen has been touring with Lambert for six years, once again became crystal clear. He has the throat, the looks, the challenging niece and the tongue-in-cheek humor. He is also very strong verbally. Thus, after the perfect singing of Killer Queen, he silenced every critic. "I know what some of you think. It is not Freddie. Of course not! There is only one Rock God and that is Freddie Mercury! "
Adam Lambert, Tongue-in-cheek
A few seconds later, he already sang mastering motion with his microphone stand Do not Stop Me Now in a magnificent way. Incidentally, the quiet moments were the most beautiful. The standing ovation for May and Taylor that the drummer visibly moved to tears. And of course the acoustic version of Love Of My Life by May that asked for more phone lights in the middle of the song. Even Lambert's own song Lucy received much acclaim.
The final concert of the concert was similar to the show in Ziggo Dome. Only the intensity was higher and the audience was noisier many times. I was there on January 29, 1979 when Queen Ahoy did to promote their latest album Jazz. It became an unforgettable experience. Last night, it was noticeable how many young fans stood in front to see their veteran heroes up close. Perhaps they will return to this concert in the same way in almost 40 years. Yes, because it was that good.
