After reading the article in the V Magazine, it sure looks like Adam's team is working on re-introducing and re-branding him to the public by acknowledging him as a trailblazer who deserves to be recognized as a standout artist alone.
I think it is the right path but I don't anticipate it to be easy.
"One of the things I’m aiming for on this project is a certain amount of timelessness.” He adds that this hasn’t always been the case with his music. “I’ve definitely experimented with trendier styles and flavors, but I think I’m trying to get down to the heart of what makes a great song on this album, and I’m excited. I think I’m getting it. I’m very satisfied.”
Today, headlines about Lambert have nothing to do with his sexuality. It’s not what makes him interesting or exceptional, and it should never have been. But it was what the world focused on at one point, and in a way, Lambert had to be crucified so that other gay artists wouldn’t have to be. It’s worth remembering that he had to persevere, which is actually the theme of his new music.
“In the times we’re living in, when there’s a lot of tension in the U.S. and around the world, it’s sort of about, ‘Okay, how do you push through? How do you not let all these outside forces drag you down or tell you that you’re not good enough or prevent you from moving forward? How do you do that?’ I think most of the songs I’ve been writing somehow get the idea that, well, let me acknowledge that, but I’m not going to let it stop me.”
When I look at the highlighted parts above, I anticipate a very fine tuned balancing act. Focusing on timeless music away from trends by trying to get to the heart of a great song sounds exciting and smart, however I think it will take some "finesse" for Adam to be relatable across demographics as he still wants to be authentically himself with the goal of "moving forward". Of course the aspect of "progressing" can be interpreted in many ways. I think in the end Adam needs to do what his gut instinct tells him to do, despite the fact that the commercial aspect doesn't seem to be irrelevant to him. After all, there has been a serious thought process behind this new project.
