Heh, so I sent my folks a Glam Nation Live DVD for a gift awhile ago and they finally got around to watching it. Some background, I hadn't told them hardly anything about him at all, maybe I sent a youtube once?, and they aren't TV watchers. For my dad imagine Eber about 10 years older, and that's basically him (into the same kind of music plus blues and opera, politically probably even further to the left.) Here's his email:
So, your rickety old folks finally put on the Adam Lambert DVD last night and were really impressed. The guy is a major talent, even though he is clearly extraterrestrial. We appreciated his persona – so unambiguously sexually ambiguous. Gay, sure. It is impressive that he seems more comfortable in his own skin than most of his straight contemporaries. And the voice and strange timbre and range are something I have never heard the like of. Gay glam rock is a bit too Weimar Republic/techno-commercial/self-absorbed/devoid-of-social commentary (at least in that concert) for my taste. The fact that us geezers thought he was a real phenom certainly says something. I hope that doesn’t ruin him for you. Lots of love, Dad

heh heh. this cracks me up. It takes me to a sign-in page for yahoo mail which I dutifully sign into but then get a blank page. Muddled is what it is and yeah, that fits my mood. LOL! Laugh with me. It really is funny.

Will you let us know the kids reactions when they receive their gifts? I will-as I said - def some eyerolling expected but they're sentimental little monsters & i think it will be retro enough to plz most. I missed them while I was gone. They keep me updated on music and I educate them on the ancient ways. I hear from a couple who are taking french that their teacher is being driven mad by this. (OK, so it makes no real sense but it got them a little more interested, cmon it's a classic!)

Well, looking back at it, yesterday I felt almost aggressively zen and now I"m having belated twinges of disappointment because...March is a loooong way off. It would probably be good for me to take a break but I'm not at all sure I can force myself to do that. Just got to the end of the thread and so love when people are allowed accepted and encouraged to express their feelings and concerns (however in the moment and even admittedly all over the place) without being scolded or chastised or met with threats of flouncing. Again, people are just verbalizing their conflict and concerns in order to get it out of their own heads. I'm that way. I need to talk about any emotional upheaval, whether it's a work issue, a fight with a friend or SO, or a family conflict. Once I've talked it out, I get over it exponentially faster than had I kept everything inside. My thoughts on Adam2: • I don't for one second believe any kind of setback was on account of Adam "perfecting." I think he has had his vision and timeline clear from the beginning and he will deliver this product on the deadline set forth (October, at the latest, as he said quite emphatically). He also said he would not release the first single until the album is done. • IMO, the album is done but for some finishing touches. He knows the track list (that was clear from Sia's tweets on Sundays and comments from Alisan, Eber, Tommy and Amy). I THINK they were still bandying about what tack to take on certain tracks (hence Amy's comments about producers), but there has been no indication from writers wondering if such-and-such made the album. I think they know. • I think that RCA is a hot mess right now (thanks pjd for such insight into mergers and reorganizations). It's true. Common sense dictates that this stuff is not resolved in a week or two. Lulu's post further iterates that not just Adam, but all RCA artists are in a state of turmoil. • No, this is not necessarily encouraging, but IMO, it indicates Adam is not being singled out. He's part of this corporate reorganization tempest and there is not a lot he can do about it at this point. • I totally believe Adam could see this coming and that may have been the reason he decided to contract with DMG when he did. He was getting a stronger team behind him IF he was put in a position to take much of his own promotion into his own hands. He could not rely on 19 and RCA. • I am glad Adam isn't releasing in November. RCA is not ready to do the kind of radio pushing that Adam will need in CHR. Kelly and Daughtry have their standard track records and Daughtry will be HAC, not CHR, so probably better for him to follow-up Kelly. I would be shocked if he has a great rollout though. • For Adam's album (which I believe WILL be done on time), I think it's better that he launch a single (and hopefully RCA will be a little more stable in a month(ish) and they can push the crap out of it). Adam will promote it to the ends of the earth and it will set fire to the anticipation for the next single and the album. • All things considered, I'd rather Adam release his album in an non-traditional marketing time and have it given the exposure it deserves than having it rushed to market without an adequate level of cohesive support. Once I came to terms with the fact that I would have to wait, I began to believe it IS for the best. I fully expect TV, radio, international and Jingle Balls in the coming months. I definitely agree that Adam is not being singled out in any negative kind of way by RCA. I believe RCA has to know what a valuable asset he potentially is for them. The corporate problems may be partially (or completely) responsible for the delay, but all the reasons you give, SusieFierce, for the advantages of a non-traditional marketing time and the time that's needed for RCA to get their act together so they can really push Adam's single and arrange for all the promo, here and internationally, really make sense to me -- although I'm admittedly kind of stupid about business in general, let alone the music business. You may be right that Adam is not responsible for the delay. I definitely felt differently about that yesterday, but your certainty about that is kind of persuasive. One thing that made me feel that it was partly Adam wanting more time is that he said in one of his recent tweets (paraphrasing) "there is a lot of work left to do", and he talked about working hard this week and next to finish up. So I was influenced by that to think he was still working on some things, or had more ideas he wanted to pursue. But he may have been talking about things other than writing, recording, or 'perfecting'. He may have been talking about what RCA needs to do, or 'finishing touches'. Not that I know the difference, lol. You're probably right that the track list is finished. But I do agree that it sounds like they were still discussing, as you say, "what tack to take on certain tracks". I do think it's possible that there's a little debate between Adam, RCA, and maybe producers, as to the final sound of certain tracks, and that's why Eber said "defend your gut". But I didn't get the sense that it was a huge disagreement or something that was upsetting Adam. He enjoys collaboration and negotiation, I think. Although I'm sure there's at least a little anxiety about making the right decisions, artistically and commercially. He's really trying to walk a fine line. But I think these minor obstacles will be good for his art, actually. Aaagghh, this is all confusing me now. But the bottom line is I'm not worried. And March is a long way off, but the single in October is exciting!!

We'll get through it and soon it will be just another gate to add to our very formidable collection. Here's a spooky one ... But in time, it will turn into something like this ... These are two great gates. I especially like the newpaper outside the cemetery. I'm trying to think of a name for this latest "gate" to use in the future. Delay-gate is way too boring. Will have to sleep on it.
