He said before he left Warner, that the music is practically ready and going to be released very shortly. So when nothing was released and he stopped talking about it, I assumed he had to give up the songs. Do you think maybe they had pressured him into releasing music he wasn't satisfied with, so when he left he decided not to release it, but to go on writing?
My take on what could have happened during the last 2 years. Note: That‘s my personal interpretation of what has happened behind the scenes. I Know nothing, so it could have been completely different.
Autumn 2016:
Adam started on album Number 4. Warner wanted him to pair up with Max Martin again. They started some work late in the year.
Winter 2016/17:
Around the time, when Adam turned 35, he seemed to have his „Midlife Crisis“ (I will simply call it that.). He thought a lot about his life, as he stated himself, for instance in the Podcast with RuPaul. He changed quite a lot in the following year (house, label, management...)
I believe, he decided, that he wanted to change course and create the kind of music, that made him fall in love with it in the first place. He decided not to go on singing Max Martin‘s pop songs. Warner wasn’t happy with that, but gave him the chance to find his way. They planned to release an EP of his songs in the summer.
Spring 2017:
We know, Adam worked on new music with Alisan Porter and others. Two Fuxx was one song, that came to be and was released as a one-off song for the Queen tour in the US.
Summer 2017:
Before Adam went on tour, he went with his finished songs for the EP to Warner. I believe, they didn’t like, what they’ve heard and decided not to release that EP like that. Two Fuxx for instance wasn’t a song, that a label would happily release, because it cannot be a radio single. We don’t know about the other songs, that had been recorded. Adam had to work on new/other songs.
Autumn2017:
Adam was in doubts about his work and how to go on. He went to the Writers Camp in France and went on, working on new music. At the time, he must have come to the decision, that his own vision and his label‘s expectations didn’t match and that he wouldn’t be happy to follow their wishes.
Winter 2017/18:
He had come to the decision, that he wants to follow his vision. He changed his management somewhere in between all that (because he had the feeling in his „Midlife Crises“, that a change would be good?). Then he and Warner decided, that it would be better to part ways
, because of creative differences.
In 2018:
Adam went on writing songs. He’s now free to do, what he wants. He takes his time, because he also knows, that it will take time, until the old contracts are off and the new ones ready to go. A new label should have come along during that year as well, possibly in relation to his new management.
Winter 2019: Finishing the album, choosing songs out of all the things he recorded during these two years. Announcing the new album (and tour?) and releasing the first single in January and February.
That’s my take on things. I can’t see, why the songs, that he had ready in the summer 2017 can’t be released any longer. BUT, since Warner wasnready to do so, Adam might have had some doubts about them. So maybe we will hear one or two of them, but not all. O4 Adam changed his own vision again.
