Hoppers, nice hat. It really suits you. And I'm being serious. Can we throw some glitter on it? [grins; looks at hat] Should I just glitter up the lollies or dip the entire hat? ;D Dip the entire hat. (hands HSM a vat of fairy dust) Go ahead! Fairy dust clings very nicely for a loooong time. just ask midwifespal who has been a recipient of my fairy dusting.

Hee hee...every day, baby, every day! AMW!!!!!! *waves madly* hi hi hi hi hiiiiiiii! loved your post, girl! Still gettin'it! Most everything's been said, and well, but three things: to those who've complained about feeling distant from Adam lately--um, yeah. You are. So am I. We all are. Hate to say it, but we don't know him at all (even though he lahhhves me and laughs at ALL my jokes in my fantasy), and while we may have a pretty good guess at what kind of person he is (I feel confident he's lovely), it's just a guess. We get to see a tiny part of him that he presents as his public persona, and I for one am a bit relieved that he's managing more and more to maintain some distance for the rest of it. Two, speaking of distance, some perspective: we--all of us here--are incredibly narrowly focused in on Adam, his career, his public choices, his persona. I have never paid close to this much attention to anyone ever (and before the recent explosion of the internwebs to do so would have been entirely impossible). If we take the teeniest step backwards, it's suddenly obvious that our hanging on his every word is a little absurd--won't stop me from doing it--but its absurd. The nuances of the Tommy action? The sixteen different charity:water related comments he made on 15 different shows? The fugly shirts? Even the twitter "rants" (which, frankly, if you see as a rant then you have never been well and truly ranted at)--we shouldn't, in a normal, sanely-invested world, know about all those. We shouldn't be checking our watches to see how recently the charity goal was hit. We shouldn't be aware that Adam said q, r, and s to x, y, and z, any more than we should be able to pinpoint that, omg, he's wearing a pair of socks he's never worn before. (And I don't mean should in a moral sense, just in a sense of what can reasonably be expected). Seen from the far more reasonable perspective of the casual fan, none of this bears any weight. He just did something lovely by inspiring a great deal of money to be raised for a great charity, he looked gorgeous on the red carpet, his voice is still great, his smile is still stunning, he still pushes some sexual buttons. That is all. I don't want Adam to play out his career completely in the interest of a few thousand ridic-overinvested fans (and I count myself amongst them)--that would drive him mad, not satisfy us (because we are at once always loyal but never satisfied), and not be the best thing for his career. And speaking of that career, a quick third point: Adam is "capitalizing off our generosity?" Well, I should hope so, that's the point, isn't it? I mean, he's selling us something (something wonderful, if you don't count the shi(r)ts), and boy are we buying. Hope we keep buying. Boy needs his dimmers. (And while I'm on the topic, i'm frickin' thrilled Adam got rich off those meet and greets--I'm sure they were an amazing experience for those who purchased them, and it sounds like Adam was a doll during them, but from his perspective, repeated ad absurdum, they must have felt pretty weird and exhausting after a while. I'm sure glad he was paid for them.) Totally different topic, had to point out Finnish headline: "BB Saulin isa Adamista"---aren't we all, honey, aren't we all. (And yes, of course my Finnish is fluent.) (also had to add, rhiannsu (sp?) I totally agree with what you said about the Tommy stuff--can't imagine it'll continue into the next concert cause Adam likes to keep it fresh, but I hope he does something else that pushes some bounadries if he wants to, and doesn't feel inhibited solely because he doesn't want to "confuse" people. Confusion can be wonderful and freeing (just see Kara "I dunno I kinda like it" DiaGuardi). Hi there, MWP! Another wonderful post, as usual. I highlighted the part I slightly disagree with. In no way I think the behavior you discribe is normal - it is certainly out of the ordinary for myself - but it is a necessary evil. He needs (over)invested fans. There are many artists who come to fame and success faster and with a bigger bang but a lot of times they turn out to be flashes in a pan. What will make the difference for Adam is 1) his extraordinary talent 2) his personality and his ability to innovate 3) an invested and loyal fanbase. I think all of these factors are necessary to achive longevity. The behaviors you described are just the symptomes of an invested fanbase. With all of its drawbacks, it is a huge positive for Adam. So what if he has to crack the whip and herd his cats once in a while? He does it with flare... While he needs a lot of casual fans, he also needs a lot of those invested fans who are out there and support him in almost everything he does. And yes, sometimes the boundaries get blurred but it is a price he has to pay. I think he's been managing it quite well. ETA I started my comment before I saw HoppersSkippersMiners' post. Sorry - and feel free to delete.

I was just thinking thanks to YOU for switching seats with me! If I had not been on the floor, dancing in the aisles to begin with, I never would have received that badge from the hi-roller who was leaving. That whole weekend was total synchronicity.

Did no one else here feel A little gouged that the fan club is selling A shirt commemorating the Charity event for a profit? That actually never crossed my mind. My thoughts....: 1) Good way to keep the charity going and encourage some new donations 2) the price was $29 (cute, in keeping with the "29" theme) 3) the shirt was NOT cute but the commemoration idea they were going for was 4) $9 to charity - still somewhat in keeping with the "x9" theme 5) I'm VERY impressed that even though Adam's goal was reached, he didn't give up on promoting it. NO feelings of being gouged. I actually thought this was quite generous and could add $$ up nicely for the charity! Way to go Adam!!!!!!! (the only WTF thought I had???? Why only Mens shirts?)

How is he so pretty and yet so damn masculine too... one of the great mysteries GrammyAdam is one of my all time favorite looks. *pets photo* My DH sent me a link to yahoo the morning after the Grammys with a note "This will make you happy. Adam looks great!" (bless his heart, he didn't realize I'd already scoured the internet for every photo hours earlier ;D )
