Honestly, I am amazed at how often Adam does remember to thank the fans compared to most artists. And I will say that when he thanks us in interviews, I feel he genuinely means it it, and that it is heartfelt compared to the way those kinds of thanks come across from other artists.
I don't expect anything from Adam on a personal level. I support him in any way I can because I love how he entertains me, and he entertains me on every level... His music, his interviews, his fashion sense, his model poses, all of it makes my life more fun and joyful. I supported CharityWater because it is a good cause and because of Adam, a double whammy. I throw my money his way so that the powers that be will know what I want in the way of entertainment as a consumer. And I feel good about making my statement that way because I can, and that empowers me as well.
When Adam succeeds, it is rewarding to me because Adam as an entertainer is a cause I
back. And so I will have his back, because it takes a large, active fan base to get labels to keep investing in artists financially, and I want more Adam in my life.
Honestly, I can see from my own son, who is currently putting out a single in March and finishing up a CD, doing interviews, deciding about cover art and music videos and meeting with his label, that even doing these things at his small level is overwhelming and that it takes over his life. He is busy every second of every day. He rarely finds time to communicate with his own real family, let alone his family of fans, and he only has a handful of them to manage as opposed to Adam.
I have learned, as a parent, not to expect much from my own grown children even though they owe me everything, LOL. They are busy doing their lives and fulfilling their own dreams. Anytime and any way they add to my life is a blessing I 'll take and consciously enjoy, but I work at not demanding anything from them, because then they wouldn't enjoy giving it as much to me. I will continue to support their efforts, and my reward will be the joy I feel with them when they succeed and whatever tidbits of their lives they happen to throw my way, LOL. In the meantime, the main focus of my life will be about continuing to try to fulfill my own dreams.
I mention this because that is somewhat my attitude about Adam. Although I don't feel a bit motherly towards Adam, as I have previously mentioned, LOL! I guess the way I follow him as a fan is somewhat similar to what I have just expressed.
I don't need to hear Adam thank me, though I am always touched when he does.
And I guess I'm fairly pragmatic. As far as the merch, in the end, although Adam is an artist, Adam and company are a business; it is about making money as well as making art. Although I do agree with many about the fugly Tshirts, ;D ;D ;D
