Wow, so much has gone on since I last looked. Leg appreciation (thighs baby thighs), stupendous graphics from Animated, and Psychedelic joined us with a great story! And, the great essay by NoAngel and comments by Cassie. I totally agree with everything you both wrote. You probably know that Texans are often accused of being arrogant. For that we have a saying that Adam and his fans are welcome to borrow: IT AIN'T BRAGGIN' IF IT'S TRUE Anybody who doesn't like it ... maybe we can get Lyle to make an Adam version of this song. All Adamtopians are honorary Texans!

LMAO! Juniemoon, that first video is a perfect example of the contrast of confidence and still having self-deprecating humor. (Not to mention, love all the stellar vocal clips strung together and ofc, the boot story will never not be hilarious and adorable, especially with that walk. LEGS, eep!)
While reading NoAngel's essay and Cassie's post, I kept picturing one of the most compelling moments in GNT, for me, was often when he came back for SFW after changing. The way he just strutted back on stage, head up, shoulders squared, he just absolutely pulls focus from the cacophony of instruments, lasers, the band ... everything fades immediately in the background – sometimes before the spotlight even hit him. The ability to do that are a combination of his innate gift, his rigorous training and his supreme confidence on stage.
No one wants to go to a concert and watch the lead hiding behind a potted plant. That is not compelling entertainment and people pick up on nervousness or lack of capability and it's uncomfortable for everyone involved. Simon used to dog Allison (who was extremely capable) for what he perceived as a lack of confidence. In his mind, that was the most deadly sin for an entertainer (once they proved they had the ability). I never really saw it with Allison as he seemed to, but I do have to agree that confidence is a key component of stage presence and if you don't have it (or can't convincingly convey it), it just won't work.

NoAngel, thoughtful essay (which I look forward to every Sunday); loved the comments by Cassie and SusieFierce, too. Also love Animated's artistic contributions. Of course, there are so many who make this place a necessary read each day, like Seoulmate, Gelly, Juniemoon, Lulu, and...oh poop! I could go on and on. Thank you, Everybody!
Regarding Adam's "hubris", those accusations pretty much pop up only in the Bubble. Idol fans seem to feel that they have created their "stars" and, therefore, have creative control over their lives and careers. And don't you (the artist) forget that!!!! Funny, but it's actually the Idol demographic that suffers from hubris!
I am on pins and needles for #2, but whenever Adam is ready to say Done!

gelly, Lulu2365 maybe we should have a special team for this Please can I play Then I can stop fretting about which other team I should join. I felt like joining them all but thought it might show my lack of decision-making :-[. psychedelic I love hearing how someone can get pulled down the rabbit hole from just a radio broadcast . noangel; you manage as usual to put my thoughts/feelings into words . You said it so much better than I could ;D

I only watched Adam live on AI a couple times and was so overwhelmed by the singing and stage presence that it didn't occur to me to think about whether he was confident or arrogant. I mostly just watched his performances on the AI web site (no judges' comments included). I didn't have time to watch whole episodes. After AI season 8 ended, I finally had time to peruse the internet and saw how fans were talking about how humble he was. I had to go watch YouTube versions with the backstories and judges' comments, and, wow, they were right. How could anyone see that as arrogance?
As we all know, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. In Adam's recent interview he is excited about his album. When he said it was going to be really good (I don't remember his words), I immediately thought of Gaga before her new album was released. Remember when she said something on the order of the music was going to be history making or game changing (someone else will remember the words better). To me Adam seems confident and Gaga seemed arrogant. Adam is saying that he thinks his fans will love it; Gaga was saying it was not only better than her previous music but better than other people's.
