I thought the Elvis special was well done. I thought almost all of the acts did good jobs: professional, on pitch, decent voices. Except for the scream fest with Carrie, was it? No thanks. That's what the "skip forward" button is for. My lingering impression after watching (and fast forwarding) the show was "One of these things is not like the others." Everything about Adam's performance was a cut above: the control, purity, flexibility, vibrancy, 3D character of his voice, the energy, the moves and vocal stylings that were not an imitation but a nod to Elvis, the color-popping suit, the blue suede shoes, the sense of fun and playfulness. Even with the company of his peers in the field, Adam is without peer. I quite agree cassie....I really enjoyed the bulk of the special so don't have a lot of gripes at all. Of course Adam's performance was a cut above...I think that is often less about just the voice, especially in this sort of situation and song...but he always seems to be just where he wants to be...singing to you in an audience and on a stage. But...big difference here imho, he also almost always includes the other musicians on stage in his joy...he moves right to them when they are foremost and makes sure we all note they are good and included in the joy...he did that with the guitarist and the drummer...don't remember a moment with the base but it was likely there. Therefore, the musicians step up their game as well...and the whole performance is just that bit better! I love that... I gained a little respect for Post Malone, I have to admit. I was totally primed to diss this odd named and looking person, but he has a draw...and he also looked like he was having fun and happy to be there. So did Shawn Mendes and Keith Urban...for me, that helps them stand out...even if their style is not my preferred one. I agree about that fake jam session...that was utter nonsense....what on earth did they do that for...You can't mandate spontaneity in a situation like that...good grief...I hate to talk badly of any of them but I agree with most here...do not at all get the attraction of John Legend...he was trying so hard to look sexy and it did not work, for me. Not impressed with Blake Shelton either. Was fun to see Mac Davis after all these years. I kept wanting someone else to break out and wake me up too but that jam session - acck. Now I was thinking, we saw two? other songs that were duets with Elvis, the one with Blake at the beginning and the one at the end with multiples, both of which they had to keep bringing Elvis back into to liven things up. So I look at the Elvis intro to Adam as being the third duet, he just didn't need backup to sell the song to the end.

I feel like EMA 2011 seriously. Only this time we know they are performing for sure. GLOBAL AUDIENCE! And this after Brian cleverly denied it and put us off guard! I'm so excited! Yes, did he say something like "We never turned the Oscars down" yes because they said YES!! Very cleaver of him. And Adam said he won't be at the Oscars. đ€ when they got call.. Still my dream for them came true!! So excited! đ„° Adam will be amazing I'm sure! đ€ I look at Adam's as in nope, won't be there by myself.

My first thought was a medley. Do you know if they have a previously performed medley that includes Bohemian Rhapsody? Iâm not sure but they could make anything work! So I assume assume Bri and Rog and the others will be here in a few days to start rehearsing? Thrilled for Adam and all of them! SQUEEEE!!! I'm so excited! Can't imagine what they'll perform....prob not the whole BoRhap song....but seems like it would have to be the centerpiece? I'd love a little WWRY/WATC added in as well. Regardless.....it'll be great. Now.....how's Adam going to manage his hair....? lol. And I'm praying for a Melvin trim....please, please. And what will he wear? lol

I would make sense if they sang Bohemian Rhapsody with all the bells and whistles including the video section with Freddie and John. But whatever they singer will be FINE with me! I don't think it's going to be a medley, but who knows? Brian WAS very clever. And can we assume that they will be on the RED CARPET? Including ADAM in all his gloriously glorious glory??? I gotta go lie down. Anybody got a swooning couch? I hope that'll do??

twitter.com/Variety/status/1097549004567703552Variety @variety Queen to perform at #Oscars ceremony on Sunday @queenwillrock wp.me/p2WgDE-1jqgfpQueen will perform at the Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, the Motion Picture Academy announced on social media today. The move, which is not completely a surprise, comes in the wake of the blockbuster success of âBohemian Rhapsody,â the biopic about the band and its late singer, Freddie Mercury. The band now performs under the name Queen + Adam Lambert, with two of the four original members, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, fronted by former âAmerican Idolâ star Adam Lambert, who has won critical applause in his role as the groupâs frontman over the past few years. Bassist John Deacon has not performed with Queen for many years. As previously reported by Variety, the telecastâs producers were known to have reached out to reps for the film and the band early in the planning process to try to procure Queen for the opening slot of the show. Several weeks ago, sources close to the situation indicated it wasnât going to happen, but clearly things have turned around in the interim. This marks a rare instance where a music performance on the Oscars might be considered one of the showâs biggest ratings-baiting âgets,â between the movieâs blockbuster success ($212 million in the U.S. to date, and a worldwide cure of $854 million) and the fact that Queen itself is undyingly popular (with the song that gave âBohemian Rhapsodyâ its title having been named in December as the most streamed song ever that originated in the 20th century). The addition of Queen + Lambert does load more music into a show that had been trying to rid itself of too much of it. The Academy recently relented and acceded to a popular outcry in allowing performances of all five best original song nominees on the telecast, after word slipped out that theyâd planned to only include Lady Gagaâs and Kendrick Lamarâs numbers. Itâs said that some of the lesser known nominated songs will be abridged to the 90-second range â a fate that surely will not befall Gaga, Lamar or, in their featured spot, Queen. While âBohemian Rhapsodyâ takes considerable liberties with the groupâs history, the power of the bandâs music and a spellbinding performance from Rami Malek (who portrays Mercury) have overshadowed most of the criticism. Variety wrote in its review of the film, âMalek, the 37-year-old Egyptian-American actor from âMr. Robot,â takes on the role of Freddie Mercury as if born to it. Swarthy and insinuating, if neither as tall nor as serpentine as Mercury, Malek has been outfitted with a set of fake front teeth, a recreation of the jutting Freddie overbite that works well enough, though itâs often a bit distracting, because there donât appear to be any spaces between the pearly whites â itâs like seeing a Freddie who got his teeth capped. That said, Malek winds up looking, and inhabiting, the part to a remarkable degree. Watching âBohemian Rhapsody,â we always feel like weâre seeing Freddie Mercury standing right in front of us.â
