Ok, some streaming and buying research. When you check Adam's Spotify "About" section it lists where his most listeners are from - all non - US with Mexico City and Brazil at the top. So why Mexico City? Ahh here is a Billboard article from late last year www.billboard.com/articles/business/8039392/mexico-city-top-market-for-artists-on-spotify-why which explains a bit and talks about independent singers and who's doing concerts in Mexico City etc. Ok so it's the 4th largest city on the planet but still why so high on streaming? If you still want a little reading then this Reddit entry www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/6h3mis/why_are_there_so_many_spotify_listeners_from/ goes into the details. Basically it's cheaper to stream than to buy - lots of phone plans come with free Spotify data usage and all of Mexico City is counted as one whereas New York City gets divided 3 or 4 sections by Spotify. Something that Billboard just tweeted was about a rock album coming in at #1 this week on the Billboard 200 - why? So you may remember Hozier from his song Take Me to Church - I still haven't figured out what makes Rock different because he's more folk, but oh well. His new album, "Wasteland (2nd album), had a debut week of 89,000 units is the largest for any rock album since Mumford & Sons’ Delta started with 230,000 units (chart dated Dec. 1, 2018). Wasteland also snares the largest sales week for a rock album since Delta, with 75,000 copies sold (Delta sold 214,000 in its debut frame). " (Timing seems a big deal here) Now note this - something we've probably begged for - sales combined with tour - yeah"Wasteland’s opening sum was aided by sales generated from a concert ticket/album sale redemption offer with Hozier’s U.S. tour, which begins tonight (March 10)." The whole "album success" thing is so confusing to me. Rock, pop, country, rap, hip-hop. It was mixes together and crosses over and I can't untangle it. I really don't know where Adam belongs anymore. It's a mystery how some songs just take off, radio play or not. Streaming or not. Good grief. I just want Adam to have at least on hit. A hit or two and a successful solo tour. Is that too much to ask? LOL

Thanks for this info. I asked before what size venues would one need to play to also make the album sales part of the deal. Hozier I noticed was playing the same size venues that Adam plays in the US yet his album was part of the deal. 2500 capacity for my local show. Anyone who is diverse enough to get their music out of that pop wasteland only (and not compete with Ariana, Camilla, Mendes, Sheeran, Taylor and Bruno for awards) I applaud. He had been nominated and won rock awards and Grammy nominations. But his music has still done very well and moved to the top of the charts on top40 and HAC too as well as rock. I first saw him on SNL before his song blew up. I don't know if it is the label or management but someone allows some of these guys to compete without always trying to go up against the Divas and/or the flavor of the moment. Almost impossible for the non-favored artists to compete with them, imo. But if you do well someplace else they let you on the playing field.

You have to find that magic Someone or Label or Management entity that "allows" someone to compete outside the impenetrable zone of the chart toppers. Well, if Hozier has rock awards and Grammy noms, Adam sure deserves one. There has to be a better way to get heard. So much of this nonsense seems to rely on some key person's whim.

My rather neutral thoughts about the hat... If he thinks it's a disguise, he's on the wrong path. I am also ready for more "hair glory" pictures. So many celebrity guys have facial hair right now. I would say most do. It's the current fashion. Adam looks good with his but I do think it ages him a bit. I'm sure in due time the fashion will change and we'll see mostly clean=shaven guys. I think Adam would look very sexy in a movie as soon sort of punky, sexy cowboy. Just sayin'.I'm on board!! And he could throw in a song or two far removed from the current flavor in pop ... as we are just now talking about the opportunities that open when breaking away from the divas.

That was my main question. Who decides and fights for placements in multiple genres? I find it hard to believe that Adam alone has been in charge of where his music lands. I doubt he would be saying please limit my music to top 40 and HAC. Tho I know Selena, Ariana, Jonas, Gaga, Bruno, Taylor, Mendes etc. will put me at a great disadvantage for being heard because pop radio loves them and will play anything they put out 24/7. Me not so much but I'm good with that limitation. The guys are winning the awards and nominations away from the Diva (and younger pop guys) dominated genre.
