My perspective on this is a bit specific as I work in PR in the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) industry that spent YEARS trying to break the association with drugs and the negative aspects of the rave culture. There are clear guidelines for our artists not to use any, even very loose, substance references on social media, videos, and public appearances, that includes pot that's legal in a number of states and provinces. And I dodn't doubt that all of them still manage to get their creative message across, or at least no one has complained. But then there was one producer who was like: "you guys can suck it" and made a track titled "Molly". LOL Fortunately he's not with my agency so we didn't have to personally deal with the fallout but the industry as a whole was not amused. We also tell out clients to never ever engage with Negative Nancys on social media. What it does, is make you look a) petty b) defensive. I always say, if you feel like answering to a hater, answer to 3 fans/positive messages instead, don't validate/reward negativity. For that reason, I hate it when Adam gets sassy in comments. Also, I don't get this whole "I do what I want" attitude/comments because it has the potential to come off as cocky and dismissive which, as some of the fan comments in the last 24 hours show, has happened here. Don't approach the masses as sheep, take them for granted and act like "you don't care" or roll your eyes when someone doesn't understands your slang. Not a good look AT ALL. See... to me this PC-inspired-direction dictated or suggested to your artists is exactly what Adam decided to leave behind... idk who is right and who is wrong here, obviously there are several sides to the same ātruthā...
What I actually see is the huge misconception on how entertainment PR functions. As I explicitly remarked in my posts, all of those are GUIDELINES, not rules. At the end of the day, artists and/or their management make the final call when it comes to artistic direction.
Disclaimer - This next paragraph is a generic not not targeted at Adam (I personally find the "drug" angle in NE mv far overblown).
I don't think there's anything bad or oppressive in publicists reminding their clients not to be dicks to anyone in public setting, social media included, and to better steer clear of sounding unprofessional and petty and try avoiding association with anything illegal. If anyone thinks that detrimental to their "artistic vision", they probably have bigger issues.

This whole convo about drugs is bringing me down. I don't think that's the message in this video. It's about love and happiness and what it takes to achieve that. As Adam said the elixir is given to people in different ways ( a magical or medicinal potion )and then they find their happiness. Sounds fabulous to me!

Just an observation -- when you Spotify, there is a choice to let Spotify choose your music once your playlist finishes. In the past, once Adam's playlist ended I'd start getting Grande, Bieber, Swift, Perry, etc. Now I'm getting some really, really great artist. Sorry, don't know the names as I didn't get up each time to look -- but Pink was definitely there as well as newer Gaga. Alot of solo artist - mainly female.

I agree...I'm not sure why the major discussions about drugs...I just don't see it in the video...maybe because people keep calling the video "trippy"? I totally don't think that's the message, and people are missing the actual message.

And if you donāt care to really think about the meaning and interpretation, you easily associate the older man taking a pill with drugs. I believe, thatās done on purpose. But that this is not a drug in the common way, but a pill of love, which makes you able to see the good things in life and thus makes you happy. All these items in a way make the people able to see the world with new eyes. And they become happy and fulfilled. But you really need to think about it. With the vibe of the video and music, it can easily mistaken.
