Two "very good" reviews that are as complimentary of Adam's capabilities as they are about his humbleness in understanding his role and purpose with Queen. Adam letting go of all ego is probably what it takes to garner respect for what he does so well. One review states that last night's show felt like "one big tribute to the late musician" (Freddie) while the second review acknowledges, "...Yet, as great as he was, Lambert was only the co-star on this night." I was at the San Jose show and the controversial "tribute act" review the next day really hit home for me. And it sure didn't help that my DH mentioned, after a concert that he really enjoyed, how a Queen concert would be very different if Freddie still was around.
In the end, it looks like a good time is had by a demographic more varied than ever before, that is eagerly flocking to Queen concerts nowadays and selling out this tour, but I am wondering what may be going through Adam's head. I personally can not shake the feeling that Bohemian Rhapsody was a blessing and a curse, especially for Adam. I was thrilled how he modified the Freddie speech in Phoenix to less gushing, but for LA it looked like the true and proven lines were back. Hardcore Freddie fans may need it, but I as a super casual Queen fan and more of an Adam fan realized only recently that it is too much for me when Adam is putting himself down in order to pay respect to a celebrated super hero who has been raised to a pedestal after his tragic death.
After watching the Nova Red Room acoustic videos I thought to myself how much I would give to see Adam in an acoustic concert like that or how I wish to see the TOH show one more time. That was all Adam. And it was glorious.
