I didn’t capture it but Adam was live on IG for the start of the show, singing the first lines of Now I’m Here and heading up the stairs. Cool! ETA it’s still on his IG, 7 minutes. Putting on some last-minute makeup then heading to the stage.

The thought that comes to my mind when I think of Adam’s “speech,” and of his deep show of respect for and even deference to Queen (Freddie, Roger, and Brian) is: “Adam can afford it.” I mean, he can afford to pay them all their due and then some precisely because he is SO rich in talent himself. (And in character, integrity, spirit, etc., too.) To me, “the speech” still rings true - I believe Adam IS in awe of Queen’s talent and catalog, that he feels honored to perform live the songs that people know and love because of Freddie’s talent and charisma and the band’s amazing (continued) excellence. I also think that as a performer, the speech strengthens the connection he makes with each audience and, so, in that way, is part of his professionalism, of giving the best show he can. I think this is a really great perspective on the whole thing.
He is unquestionably great and he can afford to be generous.
That said -- after 8+ years of sold out shows, I think Adam has paid most of his dues, and could tone it down a bit.
It is a really complicated balance to pull off QAL -- it needs to include a tribute to Freddie without being a tribute show. Adam needs to be the lead vocalist but not overshadow Brian and Roger since they are the two original members of Queen. And Adam has to be a commanding rock frontman without being arrogant or nasty.
And, whatever else, he will never, ever be able to keep everyone happy.
Yes, I would be pleased to never hear the speech again but I will pay my dues to get 2 hours of Adam.
