To echo what skaschep and some others wrote, I feel that I'm an "outsider" by being an Adam fan. In my circle, (since I'm now in my 60's yikes) friends are more into people like Paul McCartney, Emmy Lou Harris or whatever artist you can think of who has been around for a while. Also enjoying current artists makes me a bit of an outsider, so I can relate in that way to what Adam said.
ETA: yes to what Rihannsu said also!

I think though that Adam is done playing the "market yourself to the mainstream" game. He has stated that he wanted to get back to what music really meant to him. I think his talk about outsiders is not a marketing ploy it is really part of his creative process. He's comment many times that he wanted to make music for "his" people and that consists of marginalized groups and those who feel different or left out or persecuted. I think not talking about that in order to market himself to the mainstream is similar to the idea of toning himself down in order to appeal to the masses and probably a big part of why he was so disillusioned with the music industry. Unfortunately whether you feel like an outsider or different or bullied just being a woman in the world actually does put you at a disadvantage. Women are very much in need of the kind of messages Adam has in his songs. If you have been lucky enough to not experience misogyny or discrimination as a woman than you are in the minority whether you realize it or not. This. Exactly this. I'm sure Adam truly appreciates all his fans, but the fans who have appeared to touch his heart the most are those who have shared stories about how he has given them strength; has made them feel validated; has made them feel they are not alone in their struggles. Those fans are, as rihannsu put it, "his people." He has been open about that from the start. And, frankly, I'm having a hard time believing Adam would spend much time caring about missed opportunities with potential fans who wouldn't even want to give his music a chance because of his talk about being a voice for those who consider themselves "outsiders" in one way or another. If that were his main concern, he would have conducted himself and his career differently right from the beginning.

For everyone on facebook ...!
Amazon Music Germany asks "Two exceptional artists - which singer immediately puts you into a good mood, Sam Smith or Adam Lambert?"
For Adam you have to click on the "like"-symbol (thumbs up)!

I have always loved Adam for his talent and his sexy good looks and charisma are a great part of it. Not because I viewed him as weird or an outsider. And I never considered myself weird or really very different. But there was a time growing up where I felt left out. In middle school, I was so little that when the girls picked for sports teams, no one would pick me. I was awful at any sports and did not even like sports. But to be the only one left out was hurtful so I would cry. Luckily a few of the other girls would quit and come and spend time with me instead. Fast forward to high school and I was still very little and babyish but the popular girls (the mean girls who ruled) adopted me as one of their own. They were nasty to girls they thought were not on their level in looks, style and popularity but they were my guardian angels all thru high school. I was their "baby" so to speak, lol. And they never expected me to be mean to anyone to be part of the group. But I did witness bullying toward other kids and realized later how wrong and devastating that must have been. So I can relate to Adam's message about inclusion for outsiders or anyone. And I did learn how to avoid the dreaded sports for PE in high school by whining to the teachers to let me substitute dance classes for PE. Most of the time it worked. When it didn't, they tended to just give me a pass and wave me on. HA!

I'm not sure if this has been posted, sorry if it has but can someone explain the flashlight/dad joke to me? 🙈 youtu.be/t7TGIl7t9JwIt means he found a light to guide him out of the darkness. The word "flashlight" may be used more in the USA than in other parts of the English speaking world. It is a called a "torch" in the UK. I don't know about Australia, but that could have been part of the reason the radio people were slow in getting the meaning.

7.6 Billion people in the world and NONE alike! @rihannsu your comment about misogyny made me listen up. I guess i HAVE been very lucky so far. I have had MANY great male figures in my life. From teachers, bosses, Professors, my brother, my dad. I have found them to be very encouraging, understanding, empathetic, generous and Patient. Overall in my experince even more so than women. Just my Observation of course! So i have to admit, that the generalisation that often happens in that discussion does pain me a bit. I know stories of women who in fight over heritage drove apart brothers who used to be inseprable. From my own experince and my social surrounding i cannot say that female bosses are "better". They want you to show up at work, do your fing Job, don't like it when your sick. Also i find it sexist to say that these soft, nuturing attributes are innately 'female' and men are innately 'alpha'. I find it sexist to say the world would be better if more woman were in power or If the world run by women. Women are just as currupt and sinister and have just as high a standard of moral and as much integrity as men. We just need to put more people of the later in power. NONETHELESS the discussion was and is VERY important to have! It shed a light on SYSTEMIC abuse of power. On wagegap and other inequalities. It helped many woman (and especially gay men) to come forward but imo most importantly, even If not every woman found the currage to come forward it opened a discussion what abuse is and probably many people aware in the first place, what had happened to them. It made even me look at two or three situations differently. Wow this Long, for something NOBODY asked, i'm sorry lol. Sorry for going off topic, back to Adam: sizzling63 i didnt feel Adam was positoning himself as artist exclusively for outsiders. It's only this specific song on that album. Jmho ofc 🙃

Thanks to both who answered! I got that. Just thought it was a special movie refference or another urban dictionary joke.
