I just found the EMAs and watched on YouTube. I wasn't paying much attention back then although I was a fan! Pretty amazing.
I think he's been a risk taker from minute one which is one of the things that makes him so special.
I think his voice is fuller and richer now. We all know he is a perfectionist works on it and gives everything he has all the time.
I've got some time off right now so I'm trying catch up and or re watch stuff. I watched all his Idol performances last night. Hour and a half compilation on YT. Going to try and find Kiev next. Having a good time- having a ball...🤩

Went for whatever made Adam unique among all singers/musicians where he will go down in history FOREVER....Trespassing album as #1 making Adam the first openly gay artist to have a #1 album. and, of course, the EMA performance which was not only amazing but it was the 1ST TIME that Adam performed as the lead singer with Queen and astounded the world. You mention the FIRSTS--- and I am on the same page because of that. Adam himself has mentioned the Trespassing album as milestone that he is proud of. Plus there is distinction as you have said ...but to emphasize-- the album DEBUTED as #1. Period!!! The EMA performance was the "leap of faith" Brian and Roger took that initiated the "buzz" that opened minds to this union. Everythng else that followed was because --to quote you Loxie-- "astounded the world" (well at least Europe--and fans who were beyond themselves with anticipation) and woke people up to the possibilities that are now history...Europe tour, Iheart, more tours, Oscar's. Thus the reasoning for my votes aligning with yours. I hope everyone has been fortunate enough to enjoy the holiday times! 2020 is going to be a banger! (Adam solo, Adam with QAL)

I recently re-read the Rolling Stone and had to chuckle at this part: It shows that even the Idol Finale performance was already convincing people QAL would be a Good Idea...

And the funny thing is there were other Idols who sang Queen songs before Adam's season. Constantine sang a full Bohemian Rhapsody in competition. And Michael Johns was referred to as The Queen Guy. He sang We Are the Champions and We Will Rock You. And sang them in concert and on the Idol tour. There may have been others but it was Adam who had everyone thinking of the possibilities. It was Adam who made Brian and Roger take notice. The right man stepped forward and claimed his crown, lol. And the rest is history.

Omg, I love that Dust In The Wind...I downloaded it to my Ipod and always play it on repeat. There are a couple of notes in the song where his pitch is so spot on perfect, it's unreal.
Gives me goosebumps.

I understand why many are voting for the EMAs. It was the first official event with Queen that was a wonderful surprise and redeeming for us all, and it ignited their current collaboration, though we could argue that it all started with "Mama.." and the Idol finale with Queen. How soon after the EMAs was the Ukraine gig in front of half a million people then? I voted for the UK NYE performance because for me it was the most exciting gig in their earlier days. Adam also looked stunning that night and I will never forget that alluring smile when he opened with "Tonight...". We watched the stream and his energy was palpable through the video screen. Our NYE was made and it looked like many viewers in the UK agreed as he was the most googled person there after NYE. No surprise that they will perform 10 shows at the O2 this summer.
The nominations are in and they honor many important chapters in Adam's career. I discussed those with my DH just now. He is a casual fan at most, but when I asked him about his most memorable Adam and QAL moments he didn't have to think much. For him, it was "Ring of Fire" on Idol and "Rock in Rio"/Brazil haha. Again, Adam has definitely created lots of memories.

For ME the most memorable of the decade was the FS1 WLL but I voted for the one for History books - #1 album...

This may be a stretch. Since Adam performed Lay Me Down at his solo shows, here's a memory of Adam with Nile Rodgers and Sam Sparro singing Shady together for the first time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVvUNNUJYEw
