Wow. Ok, James Durbin just does not sound good. That is all I have to say on that topic.
Adam at the EMA's just has me pretty happy today, despite my total exhaustion after yesterday's very long 24 hour call shift.
I can't wait to be surprised by Adam again.

According to twitter, VH1 is deleting all the negative comments on Durb's song. Guess he can't handle it. Adam rolled with the hate.

Yeah, even MJ said that a "reality show alum" rep said to delete a comment/thread of someone saying negative comments about their client. With VH1 doing that, I'm guessing that it probably was Durbin.

I'm not cassie, but let me try: If intent to sing a note qualifies as singing it, then yes, there were definitely C3s and a C5. I think I also heard one note that was supposed to be a B2, making that claim of two octaves and 1 note not one I would argue about. But boy was that BAD. Did not hit the notes either on the low end or the upper end, everything squeezed and nasal and flat and quite frankly in large part off key. Obviously, every singer who sings songs that swing back and forth between a lower section and a higher one tries to avoid the infamous passagio, where vocal superiority is truly tested, because that requires control, something that James is totally lacking (in more ways than one). One of the ways to separate the real singers from the wannabes. Adam's passagio is clean to the point of being indistinguishable between where he is using pure head and where he starts using chest voice. He certainly does not make any attempts to find songs to bypass this, he has a grasp of the full range, not just the lower and upper end. This performance is vocally such a mess that it is bad even by Durbin's standards, tbh. So I am not going to even go further in analyzing this mess. Just for those who seem to be astounded that Durbin has that range. Range was never the issue with him, that was the one thing he did have going, which is why those Adam comparisons were tossed around to begin with (besides he himself helping the rumor along, of course). Range all by itself means nothing in singing, its just one element and receives way to much attention, I guess, because people kind of understand it. Let's just remember, Adam did more than two octaves in any of his GNT concerts for 7 months straight and you can be assured that in those 7 months he never once delivered even one measure of such a mess as this. End of comparison. ETA: actually he did once, when he could not hear his feed and was off key and knew that something was wrong, signaled to the sound guy. In the end he had to stop the performance, get things sorted out and restart that song. That was comparable, everything else Adam did never should be compared to this.

Seriously, I've never listened to Mr. Durbin. So, I don't have an opinion. But, I will say this about Mr. Lambert's detractors -- say what you will about his style, etc. the man can sing -- he has trained for years to do so -- I just don't understand why the detractors can't give him that.

Mad for a minute, not gonna worry about it now because...... ADAM IS SINGING WITH QUEEN ON SUNDAY!!!!!!
