Another random thought about Adam at the rock festival. Imagine you are a hard core rock fan. You hear that this "pretty boy" pop star from a reality TV show is going to appear. What do you think? 1. Not a real performer. Created by TV, with no cred, never paid his dues. 2. The guy wears make-up, is gay, girls fawn over him. Oh, lord it's gonna be another teeny-bopper fan fest. : : 3. What an insult to REAL rock fans. Sell-out by the promoters to get attention. This guy is everything I hate about pop music. Not gonna even listen. Then, Adam and band walk on stage. First impression? These guys look ... well, they look like rocker dudes. Huh? Then, they start to play and Adam starts to sing. Kinda sounds like rock. The guitarist does some decent shredding, and .. damn, this guy can SING. The fan girls screaming is still : but, this guy isn't half bad! Wait, what was that high, wailing note???? They are doing T-Rex? Really??? And they are rocking it! This guy has some pipes! He is from a reality TV show? No way! Don't know a lot of English, but this guy just said "fuck" onstage! And chugged a cup of vodka. Then did a wicked high improv wail. Dude!! They are playing Whole Lotta Love? That takes balls! Great guitar! This guy can FUCKIN' SING HIS FACE OFF. I'm still too cool to maybe buy this guy's pop record, but, props to him. He can rock. Legit. Now, let's get a beer. ____________________________________ If that is the reception he got at a rock festival, I think that is nothing short of fantastic. Cassie, you Rak!!!! 8-) 8-)

Yeah, I also wonder about the size of the crowds watching him? All the articles basically said his fans loved him/he was well received. The livejournal with the photos I just posted, even though they seemed to be shaking their heads at a pop star being invited said: "Lambert's fans were no less than the fans Korn." Someone asked why he was invited, and someone answered: "Driven by those who are popular. Maxidrome showed that the fans had a little more than Korn and Prodigy put together. Although Flint said in his interview that it is not clear how Lambert got here, the apparent rock fest." They also said he was friendly, accessible to fans and good natured. That's why on the whole I don't see these articles as negative about Adam's performance at all, simply a product of the cultural background of the moment -- and misogyny about any type of gender-role blurring in appearance, but I acknowledge that I'm basing that on google translate so I could be totally wrong. yes, I agree about the cultural background and misogyny. The thing is, people could LOVE his performance, but the reality in my country is such that NO-ONE, especially a male, can afford to express it OFFICIALLY (like in a news article or on-air) and not be seen as gay himself :( That guy in LJ you posted was actually nice and objective, I thought. He acknowledged that Adam's music wasn't his type, because to him it's pop, but noted that he was very well received and that Adam had a larger crowd of fans than Korn and Prodigy together :D So, yeah, though I was appaled at news' attitude, I wasn't very surprised, really. the score to me is: 1. Adam gave an awesome performance and people loved it. 2. We have awesome vids to prove it :D 3. Hard-rock stans gonna be snobbish anyway, just 'cause Adam is mainstream and came from AI. 4. Official press was disgustingly condescending at best and focused too much on make-up and sexuality, but even they couldn't change the facts entirely, so many mentioned that he got crowd wild and gave a good show. So I'm counting this one as a total WIN. Just hope Adam feels good about the fans and the gig, whatever the craziness. and, jablea, I think WWFM is more popular here, just as in the US. I hear IIHY on the radio too, but not as often. WWFM is played a lot still. actually, here's the russian radio list (Moscow and St-Pete) www.moskva.fm/artist/adam_lambert/songsWWFM's been played 10400 times www.moskva.fm/artist/adam_lambert/song_1970176/rotations and IIHY 3892 - www.moskva.fm/artist/adam_lambert/song_1970181/rotationsFYE is third with 220 spins www.moskva.fm/artist/adam_lambert/song_1970175/rotationsHi Konata, I'm pretty sure Adam feels good about his Russian fans. He's probably pretty aware of people opinion about him before he came, but for him (just like in Malaysia), he got to perform for his fans and met them. If because of this he attracked more and new fans, that's a bonus.

Thanks for the play lists konata. So Maximum hasn't played WWFM since the concert? I read in their comments that they talked about their DJ peeing behind Adam's trailer again the next morning. Seems people were really taking offense to that.
Did they really say the crowd was as big for Adam? I looked at that translation and thought it was the crowd was just as excited or the fans were just as worthy. The reviews on Prodigy said lots of people who bought tickets got held out of the main area.

Also, a big thank you to all of you who brought these reports over, translated them and tried to make sense of them.

I looked at that translation and thought it was the crowd was just as excited or the fans were just as worthy. The reviews on Prodigy said lots of people who bought tickets got held out of the main area. well, that's what Danil Polevoy, the photographer, said in the comments. "Максидром показал, что фанатов у него чуть больше, чем у Korn и Prodigy вместе взятых. " (Maxodrom showed that he has just a tad more fans than Korn and Prodigy together) Radio Maximum plays WWFM rather regularly, not too often - I used to listen to it at work, but now I don't even know, even though they play just my type of music :-/ ETA: and yes to people being offended by that morning show jerks >:( Their comment page is rather scary to read actually, and it's mostly Adam's fans expressing just HOW MUCH they're offended. Might've added a line or two myself, as civilly as I could
