Adam Lambert with his fourth studio album “Velvet”
Many music fans in Germany still don't know Adam Lambert, although he is now filling the largest arenas worldwide. Lambert became famous in 2009 after finishing second in the eighth season of "American Idol". Later that year, he released his debut album "For Your Entertainment", which debuted at number three on the US Billboard 200. The album spawned several singles, including the hit “Whataya Want from Me”, which received a Grammy nomination for the “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance”.
In 2012 Lambert released his second studio album “Trespassing”. The album climbed to number 1 on the Billboard Charts, making Adam the first openly gay artist to top these album charts. In 2015 he released his third album “The Original High”, which made it to number three on the US charts and contained the single “Ghost Town”.
In addition to his solo career, Adam has been working with the rock band Queen as a singer for Queen + Adam Lambert since 2011. There have been several globally successful tours from 2014 to 2020. They opened the 2019 Academy Awards and delivered a great performance by “We Are The Champions” and “We Will Rock You”. Between tours, Adam recorded his fourth album and sniffed the world of film - with a cameo role in the Oscar-winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody”
The new album was released in two stages. Already in 2019 there was an EP with the title “Velvet: Side A”, whose six titles are completely represented on the album. The songs alternate between funk of the 70s, brilliant guitar rock and dramatic ballads. “At VELVET I followed my instincts, my intuition and my musical influences from the 70s and 80s more than ever. It is a tribute to the music that made me want to become a musician at all, ”he says.
Characteristic are Adam's high vocals and the danceable tunes. His pieces could easily come from the Blessed Prince or be catapulted into our time by the legendary James Brown. Guter Groove has mastered the first five tracks before it becomes balladesque with “Roses”. The second part of the album is more spherical and contains some pop anthems with “Love Don’t” as well as a passable guitar rocker. "Feel Something" ends an extraordinary album with wonderful emotion.
Lambert was involved in the songwriting of all tracks and delivers hit after hit. Maybe Queen should think about recording a new studio album with this front man. We know that no one can replace Freddie, but anyone who has seen a live show from Queen + Adam Lambert knows that the American singer from Indianapolis gets really close.
