Coronavirus: Adam Lambert releases new album ‘Velvet’ from self-isolation

Just last month, Adam Lambert was rocking out with Queen in front of a stadium crowd at the Fire Fight Australia concert.
Now, like most, the pop superstar’s life has dramatically shifted due to the global coronavirus outbreak.
The 38-year-old has been forced to postpone concerts and a packed promo schedule for his new album due to social distancing recommendations.
But he hasn’t let the pandemic stop him from sharing the new music with his fans, officially releasing ‘Velvet’ last Friday.
“We were already ready to go, the release strategy was there, we had everything lined up, so it kind of felt like let’s just keep going”, the singer told Sunrise via Skype from LA.
“People are at home, they need an escape and Velvet will give them that escape, I swear!”
The singer says the album, his first in five years, pays homage to his “favourite music and artists from the 70s and 80s.”
“Hopefully it inspires people at home to put on something flashy, make a drink and have a dance party.”
As for self-isolation, Lambert says spending time alone has forced him to “chill out and reflect.”
“I think in a weird way when it’s over this is going to bring us closer together - it’s a shared experience, we’re all in it.”
“I find myself making more phone calls than I usually would - it’s forcing all of us to connect more which is really beautiful.”

BTS, Billie Eilish and YungBlud ‘could make millions’ from home concerts
Wednesday 25 Mar 2020 2:43 pm
Live-streamed concerts are keeping the music industry ticking along during the coronavirus pandemic
The coronavirus outbreak has forced acts and events like Harry Styles, Madonna, Stormzy and Glastonbury to cancel or postpone shows until a later date, disappointing millions of fans and leaving production staff temporarily out of work. But many savvy singers have found a way to entertain their fans while waiting out the pandemic at home. That is, by performing concerts from the comfort of their luxury living rooms. Justin Bieber, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, John Legend, Miley Cyrus and Keith Urban are among those who have serenaded their Instagram followers with live streams where they perform their own songs and covers, while having heart-to-hearts with their adoring fans.
It’s fast becoming the most popular way for pop stars to connect with their loyal following and a growing trend. But if these superstars were to charge for their cosy concerts, how much could they make in theory?
Research conducted by Feel Good Contacts delves into the figures and, basically, the answer is millions. YoungBlud was due to embark on a tour in Asia this spring but, like many others, had to cancel. Determined to give his fans some kind of show, the singer performed from home instead and, according to the research, could have pocketed £26 million. F
YoungBlud attracted an online audience of 357,531 which is 210 times higher than the combined average of attendees planning on seeing him in Asia, paying an average of £72.50. K-pop icons BTS haven’t performed any home concerts yet so it’s not known how many viewers they would have attracted to their live stream.
But, it’s BTS so we’re going to hazard a guess at millions. The Boy With Luv singers were due to perform four shows in Asia to an average of 17,487 fans per show. With an average ticket price at £90, that’s an estimated £6.3 million for one performance but, of course, their online audience would be much higher than an arena show could hold, meaning potentially larger profits. Billie Eilish cancelled 20 shows on her US tour this month, which she had already launched. Based on an average ticket price of £45 performing to around 19,333 people, she could have earned 870,000 from one online show.
Singer Adam Lambert loves the idea of home concerts and thinks it’s something that could last past the pandemic. ‘It’s pretty cool. It’s a direct reflection of where we’re at with technology too,’ he told Metro.co.uk. ‘It’s amazing what we can do now, as far as casting ourselves everywhere. I definitely want to do something coming up, I’m gonna try to figure something out.’
The Roses singer continued: ‘I think it might inspire some new ideas. I think people realise how much of a direct connection we get to our fans this way.’
But of course, the point is that these celebrities are doing it out of the goodness of their own hearts during a difficult time. So, let’s hope these free home concerts are the gift that keeps on giving.
