Ha! 3 was not bad for Adam, I think he normally gets 4 maybe 5. Surprised that Scotty got 0 as there are several country artists and he was a winner. KA seems to never get any, at least he got none from the ABC crowd and Cook got 1 this year and none last year. What I find weird is that they pick so many who have not accomplished much of anything. Alejandro and Laine and a few others. Of course they are current ABC Idols so maybe that is the connection. And the judges keep bragging about Alejandro this season and he has not done much but they act as if he is a star. It must be a generational thing. To most of these contestants, Adam is ancient history. Sure, they know who he is and how successful he is. But I think the current contestants tend to admire the more recent contestants. Idol's star-making power has diminished over the years. Good luck to the new contestants. They'll need it.

Kelly, Carrie and Fantasia got a lot more and they were on long before Adam. I think it is more the type of artists if you have been watching. A lot of singer-songwriters who are singing their original songs on the show. That is the appeal of Alejandro who sang mostly originals last season. Many of the low key types this season have said they relate to him and his low key style. They are dull. HA. Then many R&B or country types. And many chosen were ABC Idols who are not known outside or even have record deals so I don't think Adam is forgotten. He never has the most mentions tho he is always in the mix. And the only rock guy chose him, lol.

I’ve been looking through some prognostics and models that my company has been providing and from those it looks like general admission, standing room only events will be very last to come back, as in be allowed/legal again. Which sucks in EDM because that’s all our artists do. Sigh. ETA: Currently watching the Tokyo concert. Loved “Bicycle Races” and “Another One Bites the Dust”. Thanks for sharing your insight. I does make sense to wait for quite a while with the GA standing room concerts as that's where people are closest to each other for a perfect exchange of germs. Sadly, at this point I can't even imagine sitting next to a stranger who is less than six feet away. I sincerely hope that your career won't get too much derailed due to the pandemic. I can imagine that new concert venues and seating logistics might get introduced once EDM concerts will make a return, but that will probably affect the ticket prices. Thanks for saying that, appreciate it. I’m sure we’ll be fine and up to “normal” in this industry, it just might take a long time since international travel and mass event will likely be last to bounce back.

Adam remains one of the most successful Idols and always will be. I like the points you made. The show is different now, with contestants singing more of their own songs. And then there are the country types who always get a good amount of attention. I am not a country music fan in the least. I think it's great that Adam still gets named as a favorite. He hasn't been forgotten and he is more than worthy of their mention. Kelly, Carrie and Fantasia are all female, so maybe that makes a difference. And they are very mainstream-friendly. Easy enough to like with little effort. I sometimes wonder how long Idol and The Voice, etc., will last. I know Idol was off for a year but came back but with less overall audience passion. (I know the ratings are decent, though.) But it's clear that these shows rarely if ever produce a big star anymore. I think Adam was the last.

As it is getting somewhat slow again, here's my own little feedback on American Idol...
After Adam's season there was quite a lull for me for several years as nothing could really measure up to Adam, and I barely watched the show. But now my DH and I are really enjoying Idol again, not sure why. Though there will never be another Adam, I find it entertaining to watch all these talented musicians and singers again this year, from the distance with less investment. And I don't think I will ever care enough again if any of them will actually make it big. But it's fun and that includes the judging panel as well. They seem to have good chemistry and to me they provide kind but honest feedback. I think Katie is terrific (I like her more as an Idol judge than as an artist) and she vibes well with the other two guys (though I would not be disappointed if they replaced LR at some point). It became very clear to me again last night during the final segment of the selection process for the top 20 that they are definitely looking for the whole package and not just for a very good singer, which is probably one reason why I was never interested in The Voice.
In retrospect, I find it awesome that Adam made it to the Finale in 2009, despite the "obstacle" of being gay. He made himself interesting and exciting to watch and look forward to every week, not only because he was a great singer but because of his outstanding performances and charisma. His success to this day speaks for itself and I think he is way past the need of getting validation through and from Idol. Cool though that he is one of the very select former contestants who have been invited back in various forms. I have no issue with the fact that some of these teenage contestants today don't immediately name Adam as one of their idols. Many of them were really young back then, and also let's face it, Adam is not for everybody.

sizzling, thanks for getting to what I meant, in a way. In 2009, these contestants were likely not watching Idol, at least with the eyes of someone who is their age now. So Adam's impact on that show is barely in their memories. I can understand how he wouldn't be the favorite for many of them. And yes, he is not for everyone. The show tends to reward mainstream artists. I do not watch Idol anymore. Watched Season 9, right after Adam, than gave it up. And I only watched the Season just before Adam, too. So I am not an Idol devotee. I was lucky enough to watch Adam's season. Changed my life.
And yes, Adam doesn't need Idol's validation at this point. Nice that a few contestants acknowledged him.

I definitely get what you mean. Adam did make a huge impact on the show despite him not being mainstream or country, which in itself is pretty awesome. I find Idol to be "light entertainment" currently, which I seem to need right now. Of course it is not as captivating as Adam's season back then.
