Thanks for the link. Adam, I listened. I tried to hear what you hear in it. I tried to like it. Really. It just sounds..... meh. I find the melody to be boring and repetitive. Mars did write it in the "key of fuck" for his voice. Much of the song sounds like he is really straining to hit the notes. I can feel the tension in my body in sympathetic response to the tension in the voice. If I listen to the song without watching the video, I don't hear any emotional rise and fall, any arc to the song. It is all at the same level emotionally. Angst. Adam's songs, especially live, resemble the plot line of a good story. There is a beginning, a middle, a climax, and a resolve in the emotions of the song. It goes somewhere. It takes me somewhere. He is a master at interpretation. And, no matter whether the song is driving rock or a ballad, spans three octaves or just one, his voice always evokes a feeling of comfort and ease in my body. The notes just float or soar, but are never pushed out. His singing FEELS good. It is ironic that I have such a positive visceral reaction to his voice, and such a negative, tense reaction to a song like Bruno's. How is it that Adam can sing so "effortlessly" yet enjoy others who strain and push so hard? I don't get it. Some time back someone posted a link to an article on what makes a rock song popular or a smash hit. It mentioned three things: sung by a male, lots of high notes, and a sound of strain or push. The last puzzled me. Chatting with Angelina, the opera singer, she laughed and said she had seen that phenomenon with opera tenors. The push and strain on high notes they sometimes intentionally add. The reason she thinks it appeals is it sounds like sex. Think about it. She is probably right. I'll take the Adam Lambert sexy sound, tho'. Nothing sexier than Adam taking a song, soaring across those high notes, wringing every drop of emotion out of it, reaching a climax, then taking me back down. And, if he does it while wearing a long black leather coat, tight leggings, and knee high boots, so much the better.

Cassie, I agree with your whole post, especially when you say, "How is it that Adam can sing so "effortlessly" yet enjoy others who strain and push so hard? I don't get it." I don't really get it, either. Adam tweets out amazing compliments about so many singers, and I rush to listen... and maybe 75% of the time I'm like = huh? ??? No, make that almost 90% of the time. LOL

Yes, yes, yes! This is a beautiful thing! Met strangers who immediately felt like life-long, intimate friends. Because they get me! They get what has happened to me! They understand that the configuration of me changed - the DNA in me changed - when I heard Adam sing. When I saw Adam sing. Because it happened to them, too! This is the something that connects us. That makes us friends. That brings love here. We will have concerts to share; and we will greet one another and then find out 'who we are' - "Yes!", I'll say - - "I'm momtomany!" - - and I will embrace a friend who knows and understands who I am. Such a gift! Yes, just like Adam has said - being authentic, being the real self, is when we can fianlly love and be loved. Believe in you. Do you think I'm done for if I tell you I just now kissed my necklace? I think the essence is that we are soul sisters/brothers (as in soulmates.) We probably have a similar spirit and zest for life, and right, and painted butterfly wings in our souls! Awww mys*&@^#r that is SO wonderful!!! And you look so beautiful and happy, I love that picture you're glowing from happiness!! :D

Haha my tweet was quoted here - I feel special! Adam pimped some songs from Bruno's album when it came out - he liked Grenade and Liquor Store Blues especially (I love that he often mentions his favorite songs). IIRC what Bruno wrote back was "preciate you pimp" and I was impressed with him because very few responded to Adam at all. At the time, Bruno had less twitter followers than Adam but now he has over 5 million! Although his followers wouldn't see his response to Adam (he @ replied) unless they were following both of them :(
I'm a fan of Bruno but I don't care for this Twilight song.
Oh also, Adam went to see Bruno in concert a couple months ago and they met backstage after (they may have met before that, can't remember). I also saw Bruno live about a month before Adam and I enjoyed his concert very much, he can sing live. He's no Adam Lambert to me but it was really fun, I will go again.
