Well first of all live theater doesn’t look likely until we can get this virus under control. I live in NYC and I can tell you that between the actors, producers and unions it will be at least a year. Than there’s the issue if enough people will come to see live theater under the circumstances. Also any new play or musical that headlines an artist that people want to see ( like Adam) would not agree to a contract that was less than 6 months. Otherwise they would never make back their money. I didn’t think we were talking about anything in the next few months or even year. Creating a musical usually takes years. IF it even comes to life. We don’t know, in what stage this one might be. Contracts for stars can be very individual. I‘ve seen myself, that some only do the premier and then 3 months. I‘m not saying, that’s what’s gonna happen, because I think, if Adam created a role, he might be up to playing it for 6 months or more. I don’t think , that Adam would work on a musical without planning to star in it. Not at this point in his career. Well I certainly agree with all that. And that’s why I think he might also have money invested in it at some point. I would love to see him live in a musical. He’d be brilliant. Where and who have you seen only do a premier and 3 months of a new production? I worked in theater for many years and have never seen it.

If you’re talking about Straight White Men (Armie Hammer) and Lobby Hero (Chris Evans) both shows were limited runs and both shows had started at off Broadway houses. And neither were musicals.

But now I got curious and looked back. It seems that it weren’t new productions, when the stars had these short contracts. Uwe Kröger back was it in Les Miserables here in Berlin. Also the actors of the Count Krolock in Tanz der Vampire happen to change every 3-4 months. They always choose a big name for a premiere in a new city and then they change that. Some like it, because they prefer a certain actor. (Hint: The Stage holding is the company behind most of the big musicals in Germany and often makes their musicals swap cities after a year or even less). But I now saw that Uwe Kröger and Pia Douwes actually stayed 6 months, when the musical had been a new one (like 3 Musketiere 2004?). On the other hand Neil Patrick Harris only played Hedwig on the Broadway Premiere for 4,5 months. A role that Adam was offered.

The show opened March 29, 2014 and his contract expired the end of August 2014. Don’t forget the show was in previews for almost a month before it’s official opening. Plus 6 weeks rehearsals. Anyway the point I was trying to make regarding Adam doing a show is that it is highly unlikely that people with the money (Producers) would not want at least a 6 month commitment from their lead star to open and premier a new show. It would make no business sense. Frankly if it was Adam’s baby I doubt he would want a shorter contract after all the work he put into it.

taumbu Well, I have nothing against Adam playing 6 months or longer in „his“musical. The longer, the better are my chances to get to see him. 😁
