Have just seen something again, not here, about why Adam didn’t get to play Freddie in the film....Implication that somehow he wasn’t good enough.
Apart from Adam’s limited acting experience (and I dare to add here that, imho, he is not the most natural actor) -
How on Earth couid anyone think that he couid physically be a convincing Freddie?
Freddie was (mostly) a skinny, fine limbed, delicately proportioned man - who couid carry off things like skin tight all-in-one stretch clothing and what Adam describes as ‘itty bitty white shorts’ and nothing else, etc.
If Adam dieted from here to doomsday, he would never look like Freddie (or the similarly built Rami). (And who would want him to?)
Heaven forbid we got to see the broad, muscular, strong legged, full bottomed Adam in Freddie’s harlequin leotard -
just wouldn’t want to see it at all.
You only have to think of Adam and Rami in that scene together, outside the men’s bathroom, to be fully aware of the difference in their builds and size. (Though Adam probably wore a couple of coats to pad out a bit)
Weight could be changed but not the basic build and proportions.
Since Freddie’s voice was used, asking why Adam didn’t play him is the same as asking why any singer didn’t play him...
