Are there Commom-law rights in the U.S.? In Canada, common-law couples have the same rights as married couples under federal law. Various federal laws include "common-law status," which automatically takes effect once two people (of any gender) have lived together in a conjugal relationship for five full years. Common-law partners may be eligible for various federal government spousal benefits. As family law varies between provinces, there are differences between the provinces regarding the recognition of common-law marriage ( here in B.C. it is two years). In 1999, after the court case M. v. H., the Supreme Court of Canada decided that same-sex partners would also be included in common-law relationships. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common-law_marriage

From what I understand about Pop culture, marriage can never exist especially for male performer. It has nothing to do whether you are gay or straight, it kill off the fantasy. Adam is smart, he knows what exactly he's doing. I hope. ETA: I also hope his fanbase are here for his music and voice. IMO there is no such thing as "what exists in Pop culture". They are people like the rest of us. The idea of marriage/relationship is something that is SO different for each and everyone of us. Nobody can tell you what is right and what is wrong for you. Only YOU can say that FOR you.

Only these states recognize it though Alabama Colorado Georgia (if created before 1/1/97) Idaho (if created before 1/1/96) Iowa Kansas Montana New Hampshire (for inheritance purposes only) Ohio (if created before 10/10/91) Oklahoma (possibly only if created before 11/1/98. Oklahoma's laws and court decisions may be in conflict about whether common law marriages formed in that state after 11/1/98 will be recognized.) Pennsylvania (if created before 1/1/05) Rhode Island South Carolina Texas Utah Washington, D.C. And also: While a number of U.S. states recognize either same-sex marriage, or domestic partnerships with the same legal incidents, as marriage, no U.S. state except Iowa, where the law is untested, currently recognizes same sex common-law marriages. The Federal Defense of Marriage Act permits any state to not recognize same-sex marriages from another state, and provides that the federal government will not recognize any same-sex marriages. wiki: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common-law_marriage_in_the_United_States

OMG this is all SO frustrating! WHY? Why should any goverment must tell you what you 're allowed or not allowed to do with your personal life? And why would other people should tell you how to think or what to do with YOUR life?
I know I'm not saying anything new here, I just want to scream right now...

This is what the executive director of Usher had said in one of his Music behind the scene when they analysis Usher's career path after he got marry. He lost most of his fans but miraculously come back after his divorce. Maybe I should not use the word never. I am just a little bit worry. That's all.
