Yep - award shows are about the show. There is so much good music - even a lot of good popular music imo - more than there is time and “slots” in any show. So, there are “deals” and there are “snubs.” It’s inevitable. (Weeknd would have gotten a nom/award and performed Blinded by the Lights if he hadn’t also gotten the Super Bowl, he thinks - I’d believe that. I love that song, but he surprised me as SP pick because his themes are pretty haunting, sad, and kind of nihilistic, imo. I think of SP shows as being more upbeat, anthemic, celebratory.)

Following that the article goes on to Bieber who thanked the academy for his nomination but questioned why his album was put into Pop instead of R&B. - So Adam may be trying to submit in other categories and they are pigeonholing him too.
Thank you so much for that Jablea. That made my disappointment easier for what it is worth, lol. I could not understand after Adam made such a point of saying his new music was different with Queen influences, why he only submitting in pop. He said Velvet was more in an alt directions with real instruments and Tame Imapa was a major influence along with Sly Stone and Prince. He told fans he would not use dancers in the new concerts for Velvet but only his band. When he said he was no longer chasing pop, he was really acting on that with emotional ballads and funk rock and soul with some disco. But it could be the Grammy's were not allowing him to compete in other categories. It may take him getting his music played in other genres for them to take him out of only competing in the youngster and diva category. But being indie, it may be hard for him to get any radio play at all. On itunes Velvet was listed as pop but on Amazon it was listed as rock (rock does not always mean hard rock only so it made sense). But Velvet was exceptional and I wish when he was on a major they had let him go in that direction with a real push to some other charts. But he has done well for himself and I trust that will continue, nominations or not.
